Post-Thanksgiving Post-Black-Friday November 29 2003, 10:43 pm
The trip home was decent. . . although marred by random bouts of sleepiness while on the road. In case anyone wonders, falling asleep at the wheel is not a good thing. Especially if your significant other is in the passenger seat. Granted, it was slightly her fault for keeping me awake till 5AM in the morning on the day of the drive.

Much turkey was to be had on Thanksgiving, although I didn't notice it as much. Ninety percent of my time was spent on Quincy VII (in preparation for reassignment) and the special project I've been working on for the past week: Quincy XII (the new central command unit).

With a full belly, new computer, and loads of spare parts (no thanks to Black-Friday), Yan Yan and I finally came home yesterday afternoon with the repaired Bismark. The new fuel tank seems to be holding, and the shipyard will inform me of developements in regards to the engine problem noted earlier.

Wheeeee. . .

Gobble gobble gobble. . . November 26 2003, 05:16 pm
Well. . . I should've been on the way back to Camelot Command hours ago. . . but Yanyan's professor/advisor decided to be a bitch and keep everyone on campus (despite the fact that campus is closed at around noon. . . and that tomorrow's Thanksgiving. . . and did I mention her prof's a bitch?). Honestly, just because her advisor doesn't want to go home doesn't give her any right to keep everyone else around for company. Maybe I don't have the whole picture, but I seriously am annoyed by the result.

Other than that. . . just a couple of days of relaxation to look forward to. . . as well as an unexpected construction project to oversee. More on that when I get back.

Haven't heard from the shipyard yet about the readiness of Bismark. Slightly disappointing, yet reassuring that they're taking their time to make things right.

Freeze Front November 23 2003, 06:55 pm
What an interesting way to end a weekend.

The two LAN parties happened without much fanfare. Both of them had positives and negatives, which resulted in a zero sum game. Hopefully future re-iterations will be much more fulfilling.

As expected, Yan Yan wasn't happy with me going to these events. But I think I successfully juggled the two over the weekend. Though I care not to repeat the experience. . .

Evil Twin has left for home for the next week or two. He'll be back soon though. . . and maybe even permanently.

As I freeze my rear-end off from this ill-anticipated cold front, it makes me want to find a comfortable position on the futon and start thumbing away through a good ol' console RPG. Hmm. . . maybe I should dig Chrono Trigger out of the pile and fire it up again. . .

I relinquished command of the Bismark and was assigned temporary command of the Agammemnon due to some critical failures in the fuel system (thanks goes to dad for making the transfer possible). The Bismark is currently sitting in drydock at the shipyard undergoing repairs. A reliable source has also informed me of a highly possible and highly fatal electrical flaw in the engine compartment, which I will seek clarification from the engineers in the next few days.

*sigh*. . . no rest for the wicked. . .

Time flies. . . November 21 2003, 04:40 pm
Whoa. . . I didn't even notice how many days have passed. Been sticking my head in a few projects here and there. . . and did some moderate changes to the way the Media Library was set up. Now its a bit more media-friendly. . .

My shoulder is back up to 85-90% efficiency. . . there's still a few MASC (Muscular Acceleration Signal Circuitry) issues to be worked out, but I don't forsee any imminent danger.

LAN party tonight at the complex. . . and then another LAN party on campus tomorrow. . . going to be a busy weekend. . . and Yan Yan is not going to be happy with me. . . :P

Clavical November 17 2003, 12:13 am
One of these days I guess I should opt for a cybernetic replacement of my clavical. . .

It seems that I didn't suffer as much damage as I feared, but the right shoulder is only at 60-70% efficiency at the moment. Cumulative observation indicates that I managed to overstrain the muscles in that area, and at worst I might have a hairline crack in the skeletal structure. A couple of trips to the hot tub so far has helped out on the muscular recovery, and hopefully the shoulder will be at 90-95% of operating spec by the end of the week.

While ACC has yet to contact me, Ken at Best Buy is renewing his quest to make me a full-timer. Because of the lack of anything else on my plate right now (other a couple of web projects), it may not be a bad thing (hours aside. . . they can really give out annoying hours). . . guess we'll see.

Heal arm. . . HEAL!!!

Man down! Man down! Medic! November 13 2003, 04:14 pm
So. . . broomball game last night produced unexpected results. The team I was on won (was it ever in doubt?), but at a very high cost.

Evil Twin took goalie position because that's what he was geared for. I took forward position because that's what I was geared for.

The ball hardly ever got that far in our area, so the goalie's position wasn't threatened that much.

But the ball was mostly in the center or in the opposition's court, so I was doing a lot of blocking and shooting and intercepting and running around like a chicken with its head chopped off. As I should have expected, my right clavical (which was broken from the accident a little over a year ago) received some devastating injuries towards the last quarter of the game. Its not broken out right, but there was a sickening pop/crack that has me worried. Its terribly sore right now, but I still have about 40-50% range of movement. I figure I'll lay off of it for a couple of days and it should be better. If not. . . we'll see. . .

Patience is a Virtue November 12 2003, 09:14 pm
. . . or at least they say. I've been waiting for over a week for ACC to make up their mind on which candidates to interview, but apparently they're still dragging their feet. Sheesh. . . make up your minds already!

Meanwhile, Evil Twin has been down here for the past several days visiting. Much slaughtering has occurred on the online battlefield. And as soon as we're done with dinner tonight we will be deploying to fend of incoming insurgents at Chaparral Ice. Sources say there are belligerent ACM members amongst them. Too bad they chose the wrong side. . .

Quincy VII got a new upgrade this week. The old and reliable GeForce2 GTS 32MB AGP has been swapped out in favor of the GeForceFX 5700 Ultra 128MB AGP. All my tactical simulations look so much better now.

Alrighty. . . food. . . then battle. . . then maybe some more food. . .

Frutation November 5 2003, 12:02 am
After spending the last 48 hours smashing away at my keyboard, I'm finally making some headway in the Multimedia Library Database I started on months ago.

So it ended being that I realized that I bit off more than I could chew with a project of this magnitude, and it turns out that a group of others have already thought of creating something like this, and are nearing completion even as we speak.

From a end-user prospective, they have a heck of a product on their hands (fortunately its GPL, meaning free to use). From a programmer prospective, I have a healthy respect for the amount of time they must've spent on it. Just manhours alone it would've taken me months to get to where they are now.

After a little modifying here and tweaking there, the database is on its feet, and all that remains is for me to input the data.

Feel free to peruse it (link located in the Stuff section). For the lazy ones, RPM Freelancers Media Library. The system is account based, but you can use Guest:Guest to view it. Account requests (so you can start your own list) will be considered if asked nicely.

Post Halloween November 1 2003, 10:38 pm
So Halloween party went fairly well at Matthew/Austin's place. It was interesting to see what everyone was dressed up as. Crystal showed up as Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Blake was Kool-Aid man, Will walked in as Monet's Starry Night, and Matthew donned his bushido armor and katana. There were other dresser uppers as well, but it did get a bit warm cramming thirty some odd people into one place. I was sweating profusely in my plate mail for the lack of ventilation. . .

I dressed up as a wandering Dark Paladin and Yan Yan came along as playful sorceress.

Unforunately, no good pictures were taken, and I did not get to duel with Matthew. It would've been an even match. . . although Will said it best when he stated the chances of surviving a duel like that: 1/3 of the time a person will win (live), 1/3 of the time a person will lose (die), 1/3 of the time both participants will lose (die). Kinda sucks to be in the old days. . .

Yan Yan's hounding me to get some pictures taken of me in full armor. . . think I'll see if we can get that taken care of tomorrow. . .
