Lots of interesting things happened in the past few days. Some good, some bad, and some that just had to happen. Bad stuff. . . well. . . job hunting really. Nothing much can be said other than its not going too well. That and I still need to find time to sit down and prep for my Linux exam. Stuff that needed to happen. . . me needing time and space to talk to myself about where I stood in life, and where I am headed. This was accomplished by me taking the new Battleship out and just simply followed the road and making turns at random. Came to some painful realizations, not so painful conclusions, and very nerve-raking predictions. Simply put, I needed to rearrange some of my logical processes and recalibrate my decision making protocols. I have lived life too care-free lately, and things need to change before I fall and slide into an abyss of oblivion. The car and the (damaged) motorcycle stays though. Otherwise, its back to basics for me. Good stuff. . . lots of good home cooking for the past few days, and lots of time spent with the new car. Accidentally revved her up past the 5000 RPM mark, because I was trying to activate her afterburners. Big no-no. Fortunately she didn't complain too much, which I will thank the Infiniti engineers for later. Last night I found myself driving the car and four cute girls around town (don't ask how we fitted 5 people in a 4-person car, going 110-MPH no less). Unfortunately, one of them decided to take advantage of me at her friend's place, but she claims that she will make it up to me by trying to hook me up with one of her friends. I'm not sure how well that will go, but time will tell. Oh, and sometime in the past month or so, it seems that we have a new member in the family. She's been staying at our place for quite a while now, and mom has really taken a liking to her. She's the daughter of a family friend, who is currently undergoing some family issues, issues which my parents decided to help resolve. *shrugs*. . . who am I to disagree? Hopefully Calima is still guarding OC3. I think I left enough food for her. . . oh well. Life goes on. |

Due to the Thanksgiving Holidays, OC3 is being reduced to minimum functionality. Once again the feline Spymaster will be holding the fort for the next few days. One note about the Spymaster, she was recently renamed "The Cheat". This will better serve the purpose of disciplining the misbehaving ball of fur, by the stern phrase "The Cheat is GROUNDED!!!". (Those of you who visit Homestar Runner should appreciate the humor). |

| Settlers Report | November 24 2002, 03:27 am |
| Woohoo! After several months of dismal performance, I finally won a game of Settlers again tonight. It was touch and go for a bit there, but after a steady accumulation of resources and commodities, I stole the victory away from Long, Ketan, and Evil Twin by building four cities and acheiving two metropolises (we were playing the Cities & Knights expansion). I was also making my presence felt by randomly issuing monopolies and dispatching bishops. Long resorted to sabotaging my cities, which I returned in kind by stealing his commodities. All in all, a fun night after stuffing ourselves full at Buffet Palace. | |

| Mom's birthday | November 23 2002, 04:45 pm |
|
Today is mom's birthday. Yes, I did call mom and wish her a happy birthday. No, I did not go home this weekend, because of a variety of reasons. However, I am preparing to go home this Tuesday, for Thanksgiving. Hopefully they'll have turkey and good mashed potatoes this year. Oh, and the hillside fortress with 3 decks got upgraded from a Maybe to a Definite Plus. Now we (Evil Twin and I) just have to secure income to pay for the premises. :P |

| Housing | November 21 2002, 11:35 pm |
|
Finally had a chance to go house hunting today with Evil Twin. We looked through about 12 houses, and have basically narrowed our choices down to 3 definites, and 3 maybes. The definites include a 5 bedroom mansion for $1500/month, and a 3 bedroom casa for $1400/month. The maybes include a shack with a hot tub in the back deck, and a hillside fortress which featured 3 level decks (a la Oasis style). All in all a good scouting trip. In case Evil Twin decides not to move down, I might be meeting with the realtor again tomorrow to see about 2 bedroom solutions. Also got the Extended Special Edition of Fellowship of the Ring. Was nice watching it with all the cutscenes included in the movie, instead of having to browse the "special features" separately. The cutscenes did a lot better job of explaining the whole movie, and even though it increased the showtime by another hour, I say it was worth it. |

ACM & EGADs vs. NSC. . . final score, 1-1. . . with a rematch scheduled for sometime in the relatively near future. NSC outnumbered the opposition 1.5:1, but the presence of me and Evil Twin, in a fully armed and armored condition, evened out the odds somewhat for the ACM side. All in all, it was good clean fun, and we only had one injury in the NSC (I didn't do it, I swear!!!). Time for sleep. . . get to meet the realtor in the morning and talk amongst ourselves. |

Ahh. . . had a wonderful dinner last night with a bunch of ACMers. It was the pre-Thanksgiving-Dinner dinner. . . It winded up being mostly potluck, with two turkeys as the main course. The turkey was good. The side dishes were great. And the company was awesome. I made Potatoe Au Gratin, which was gobble up by the others before I had a chance to taste it. Sara made cornbread (which was her first cooking attempt) which turned out very well. Heather made some damn good mashed potatoes. And Dan and Ketan prepared the turkey and stuffings and the remaining dishes. All in all, I think we had a pretty good time. After dinner we decided on a whim to go out and try and catch the meteor storm last night. So we stayed up until 4AM to go and find a place out in the boondocks to watch the skies. All this was done in good humor, until we were jipped and saw all of 10 meteors between the 5 of us. It was quite disappointing. . . but it did not diminish the great time we had at dinner. |

| Quincy VII's Resurrection | November 16 2002, 09:30 pm |
|
After four months of continous system instability and degradation, Quincy VII is finally back online without any issues. It turns out the memory modules installed were failing, introducing numerous data access errors that caused the system to fail regularly. A temporary memory module has been installed until the replacement modules arrive. At the very very least I can play games again. . . :P In the next couple of days I will be restarting the study process for the Linux exams in an attempt to redeem myself. Let's see where this will take us. . . |

| Defeat. . . | November 13 2002, 11:44 pm |

After yesterday's close call, it was not really surprising to recieve two disastrous defeats against the second pair of Linux exams. What irks me the most is that most of the questions on the exam could not be refenced from the book, anywhere. I had to start using Google to find some of the topics mentioned in the exam. So. . . the current plan is to take a step back from this, clear my head, and pursue this again in one week. I'm still pursuing the course to argue some of the questions/answers from yesterday's exam, so hopefully I will only have to retake these last two. *sigh*. . . Can I have just one thing going right for me from straight to finish. . . ? |

| Doh! | November 12 2002, 03:57 pm |

Went to take my 2nd exam today, and was so close to victory I could taste it. Unfortunately the exam smacked me down, I only needed one more correct question to pass, and was summarily denied. However, I noticed that a few of the questions were not entirely pristine in its validity, so I'm going to try and argue them with the testing agency. All I really need is for one of them to be turned around. . . And once again, Quincy VII is being lobotomized. . . it is not performing as well as it used to ever since July. . . very frustrating. . . |

| I have returned. . . | November 11 2002, 02:01 pm |
|
. . . from a relatively uneventful trip back to Camelot Command. The main reason for my trip was the finalize some paper signing for the transfer of the new battleship to my command. There was a slight misunderstanding, but that has been resolved as of this morning. However, upon my return to OC3, I found a Intent to Evict notice posted on my door, with a 48 hour time limit, dated Friday. It has become obvious to me now that the sooner I move away from here, the better off I will be. A short visit to their management office resolved some of the issues, and I noticed that on my way out, a Travis County sheriff was on his way in to deliver what appears to be a notice of lawsuit. If this is true, then I am not the only person who found this complex lacking in the customer service department. The search continues for a civil lawyer who is willing to take a look at my case. |

| First Strike!!! | November 7 2002, 09:18 pm |

Woohoo!!!. . . went to battle against the 1st Linux Exam this morning, and after being ambushed left and right with unmentioned topics from the class, I emerged victorious after 35 minutes of brain-twisting questions. So that's one down, and three more to go before I have to face the final hands-on exam. On another note, despite an earlier agreement (back when I renewed my apartment contract in January) stating that for renewing my contract I get to take $100 off of my rent, I found a note stuck to my door this evening when I returned home stating that I owed the complex $100, plus $70 late fees. Let it be known now that University Heights is now on my blacklist. There is only so much I can take before I retaliate. |

Got home maybe fifteen minutes ago, and as I was sitting down to prepare for my Linux exam in the morning, I get this knock on my door. Open the door and find a cop asking if anybody called regarding a burgarlary. I believe I was as surprised as he was about all this, since no calls were made from my place (not that I know of at least). How many days is it again until I move out of this craphole? |

| Ouch. . . that hurt. . . | November 5 2002, 09:22 pm |
| Well, I am not injured. But my wallet now has a burning hole in the bottom. Spent $400 for registering the Linux certification exams. . . one this Thursday, one next Tuesday, and the last two next Wedensday. I *think* I am ready for them. . . but they do not worry me as much as the hands-on test which the instructor has been ever so cheerfully scaring us with. . . This just means I will have to practice more with Linux so that I WILL be ready to tackle the final barrier to my employment. I think this is one of the very few times in which I am throwing everything I have working towards something I really want. . . | |

| Leakage. . . | November 4 2002, 09:01 pm |
|
Crummy weather today made the day gloomy. Things went from bad to worse when I came home after class and found out that whatever they were doing in the floor above mine, they were causing a major (Acidic) leak into my living room. I've lost two keyboards as a result of this, and the whole place smells like acid. As expected, phone calls made to page the emergency maintenance crew from the apartment complex went unanswered. So much for the "new" management. . . since it hasn't differed all that much from the "old" management. . . At first I thought I might have been hasty in wanting to move out of this place. . . this just simply reaffirmed my decision. Had this been a first leak, I would've let it slide. But that spot in the ceiling has leaked twice before, and they've done nothing. Things as they are, I'm starting a countdown to the day I move out of this place. |

Wow. Wow. And Wow again. The new battleship was brought online with minimum fuss on 20:00, November 2, 2002, and cruised out of the Sewell Infiniti Shipyards under her own power for the first shakedown cruise. All I can say is for a vessel this size, she has power, to spare. Normally I'd have to push engines well past the 3000RPM mark to get any sort of response. . . in this ship, I barely have to reach 2000RPM and already she's gaining noticeable velocity with enough umph to let you know about it. Ironically, at the same time it feels like she's teasing you, and asking you to push her acceleration pedals deeper. . . going faster. . . and deeper. . . and faster. . . and deeper. . . *ahem*. . . so anyways. There are a few more shakedown cruises currently on schedule for her, before her maiden voyage to OC4. This also means that until OC4 is established, the Bismark will be stationed in Camelot Command for her test runs. Which is fine by me. . . the area in which OC3 is located is no longer safe for future operations, and plans are being implemented for the accelerated evacuation from OC3 to OC4. You win some you lose some, I suppose. . . Current projections have OC4 being brought online by mid-December, and the new battleship being transferred here shortly thereafter. Until that time, I am retaining command of the Agamemnon. I did, for a few brief moments, had trouble saying goodbye to the Bannockburn. She was a good ship, a good lass. I will miss her, but I know she well be left in good hands. |

Whoa. . . that was a wild night last night. Things didn't really pick up until shortly after dinner (Evil Twin and I decided to grill at the ACM house), when everyone showed up and gave Shrew's date a hard time for the night. I think we scared her so much she won't be back anytime soon. :P 6th Street was jam packed as expected, with lots of costumers, alcohol, and cops. This year they were fully prepared and were confiscating anything that might look menacing (I saw several hockey sticks in the pile, but I was confused when they let a guy walking around with a lightsaber freely. . .). We all hanged out at Maggie Mae's, courtesy of Ben, and proceeded to imbibe alcohol, hoot at good looking girls (even the girls with us were hooting), and basically having a good time. Things were starting to get interesting when two really hot girls began strip dancing on the speakers for the band that was playing for the night, but unforunately I had to cut things short as it was getting late, and I did pay $3200 for a class I fully intend to pass. Evil Twin was regretting the night's activities, as he had to report at Fire Station One in Pflugerville this morning, as well as meet with the chief of police in Georgetown. Me, I was fine except for some really tense muscles in the morning. A couple of Bayer pills took care of that. Although for some obscene reason, I did not fall asleep in class at all today, even though I was dead tired when we got home at 3AM, and only had 6-7 hours of sleep before I dragged my rotting corpse out of bed and cleaned up enough to feel human again. And tomorrow I shall find myself on the road for a date with destiny. . . the Brigade Naval Service Advanced Battleship Bismark is finally ready for deployment. "Fifty thousands watts of funkin'" |
