I will knock on wood while I say this, but damn. . . its been a hellish month. . . and assuming nothing bad happens tomorrow, I'll be glad and breathing sighs of relief when this is over. Spent last week tying up some loose projects at work, and dressed up as a cat burglar for the company's Halloween party. We had a pretty good turnout of costumes (more than likely as a result of the CEO's stern "suggestion" to do so), and Rudy's for lunch is always a good thing. Good times. . . good times. . . Swung by Fry's yesterday to procure a replacement UPS unit for the one that died earlier this week. Finally installed it into the network today, and fate willing, the network will finally be stable again. I'll keep an eye on it for one more week before taking Quincy XI down and finish off the Consolidation project. Yanyan will be back tomorrow! Miss having her around. . . although having some time to myself isn't bad either. . . Will probably spend time today recuperating, cleaning up the place, and studying for my belated Net+ exam. I've got to get that out of the way ASAP. . . |

| Unreachable | October 26 2004, 09:26 am |

That was the message greeting me this morning when I tried to access the site. Turns out my host had some technical difficulties, which was happily resolved within an hour of discovery. YanYan will also be unreachable for the next few days as she trots off to LA looking for prospective employers. I'm going to miss her. . . and will be happily going to the airport on Sunday to pick her up. Quincy X is also unreachable. . . as the system has suffered severe thermal failures. Thermal failures meaning that it runs too damn hot with all the drives in the system. That's what I get for cramming 5 7200RPM drives in a mid-tower case with minimal ventilation. I should've known better. Switching from a Athlon 1.33Ghz platform to a P4 3.2EGhz platform didn't help matters any (other than prolonging system uptime by about 15 minutes). So I'll be exchanging the P4 CPU & MB for a decent power supply and extra fans. Will probably have to drill some holes in the case to allow for the extra fans. . . *sigh*. . . no rest for the wicked. . . Now that the situation is semi-stable again, I hope to have Quincy X back up and running within the week, rebuild Quincy XI with updated software, and be ready for the Network+ Exam (which should've been done 2 months ago). Meanwhile. . . I haven't heard from the Evil Twin lately. . . wonder what he's been up to. . . |

| And life throws another curve ball. . . | October 20 2004, 11:02 am |

Just when I thought it was safe to let down my guard, October's back with a vengeance (as if this month wasn't off to a bad start as it is. . .) Somehow I managed to lose my newly acquired 256MB USB key. . . and although it was only $40. . . it still sucks. . . And now I'm getting reports that Quincy X has just suffered catastrophic failures, prompting a emergency system shutdown. Unfortunately I won't be able to verify this until I get home. . . which is still another seven hours. . . Something to be said about balancing karma. . . but I'm still wondering WTF did I do to screw up the balance!?!?? |

Yes I know. I haven't updated in over a week. I have not met my untimely demise, probably to the detriment of some of you. I haven't ascended to diety-hood yet either, but that will come to pass in due time; I'm in no hurry. Last week and the coming weeks will be a bit busy for me, as I try and tie up the loose ends on some of the projects and operations I've assigned for myself. The Quincy.Net project is nearing completion, the Enlightenment Operation was stalled until I decided I've stalled long enough, and Epimelites will have my full attention as soon as I'm done with my Net+ exam. That and also make up for the huge dent in my budget thanks to me being slightly inattentive about the speed I was travelling at while enroute to work. And that's all I'm going to say about that. I did pick up Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna though. . . and I must say it has succeeded in multiple areas where Diablo (I & II) have failed. The storyline is engrossing enough to keep me playing day after day, and although the action/fighting elements gets a little repetitive after a while, being able to have your party members switch battle tactics on the fly helps ease the pain a little. Evil Twin is finally getting some resolution to his relationship problems. Here's hoping everything goes well for him. I can't afford to lose an Executive Officer right now. . . YanYan will be heading off to Los Angeles in a couple of weeks for her IDSA conference. I'm going to be miss her. . . :( |
