Fumoffu! October 30 2003, 10:05 pm
When you watch a movie or read a story, do you ever wonder what happens to the characters when its over? Do they go on with their lives? Is their destiny forever changed? Will the clumsy guy finally get his girl?

Well, Full Metal Panic Fumoffu does exactly that. With the end of Season One, I guess the creators had to have something to fill in some blanks that were leftover from Season One that had to be resolved before Season Two comes out. And honestly, they've done a damn good job. I haven't laughed so hard at an anime in a long long time. The simplicity of the humor subtley masked over by mature themes that would normally overrun the innoncent nature of such a work is delicately balanced by the creators, and for that I must commend them a job well done.

Opening Theme to FMP Fumoffu

Because gentleness can sometimes also be cruel
The longer I search, the more I lose sight of the answer.
If you can see a rainbow over the city when the rain lifts
Let's start walking, as something new is about to begin.

Because you're here.
Because there's a tomorrow.
Because we can't go on living alone.
I feel you so close by my side.
Isn't that called love.

You know the number of my tears and pain. . .
And so, in your translucent eyes. . .
I want to seek this certain sense. . .
and find your smile.

Freeze Front October 26 2003, 08:12 pm
Okay. . . maybe not really freezing tempertures. But the massive cold front that has kept the weather reporters trigger happy for the past few days has finally arrived. Yet its much anticipated arrival was anything but spectacular. More like it slowly crawled in on Saturday night, and dropped tempertures by thirty degrees.

Still. . . its nice to have cold weather. Even though it'll probably make me introspective/nostalgic for the duration of winter. . . I guess its time to break out those RPG games that I've been hoarding all year. . .

Scheduled Maintenance October 22 2003, 12:20 am
The Bismark is slightly overdue for her routine maintenance, due to the rather ridiculous schedule Best Buy has had me working for the past several weeks. Fortunately I'm getting a break in the next two days, so I'll be heading back to the shipyard for the service to be done. The braking thrusters do have me worried though, as other vessels of her class are reporting unusually early wear-out of the thrusters. . .

The other thing I'm hoping to have done is for the onboard engineering computer to be reset. Its getting too complacent in the application of power to the engines. . . not getting as much "ooomph" as before. . . guess I'll talk to the engineers at the shipyard to see what they can do.

Wheeeeee. . .

Costume Party. . . October 16 2003, 02:33 pm
So there's noise about a costume party for Halloween this year. . . and so I decided to add/change/modify/edit some of my equipment for the event. Took me the last two days, but I'm fairly happy with the results. Pictures will be available after the party, as I don't want to ruin any surprises. There's still one little thing I want to change with the costume. . . but otherwise I think it looks pretty good. . . :)

Inventory. . . October 12 2003, 11:57 pm
Man. . . spent a grueling twelve hours at work today. . . seven during open hours, and five enduring the inventory process. The inventory process happens twice a year, in which an independent firm comes in and takes a complete count of what we have in stock. Its up to us to make sure that the counts are correct, with which we compare it to the corporate counts, and we are either richly rewarded for being close to target, or not so richly rewarded for being way off target.

No idea when the results will be in. Although preliminary outlooks aren't so good. . .

Man I'm tired. . . time to invest some time in the hot tub. . .

Networking Goodness. . . October 8 2003, 01:43 pm
I added a final touch to Quincy X today. . . making it more reliable than ever: a IDE RAID controller.

With it, I'm finally able to deploy a RAID1 (mirroring) configuration on the server. To those who are not in the know, any server would benefit from a RAID configuration, and in most cases, its required. I've been toeing with chance for far too long, and decided to play on the safe side from now on.

So. . . I'm going to sit here and be happy while Quincy X rebuilds the mirror 120GB drive.

Okay. . . maybe not sit. . . but rather cook. . . its been a long while since I've flourished in the kitchen. . . time to change that. . .

Whoa. . . ghosts. . . October 6 2003, 11:24 pm
Just got an interesting email. . . someone I haven't talked to in almost two years just sent me something. . . and she assumed I had forgotten her! *chuckle*. . . ahh. . . brings back so many memories of those sleepless nights. . .

Pardon me while I sip into a bit of nostalgia. . . :)

Victoreeee~!!! October 6 2003, 12:40 am
After some simple troubleshooting. . . I've finally figured out why Quincy VII was mysteriously shutting down on various occasions. . . usually in conjunction with the exact moment of my UPS switching between battery (full charge) and outlet as a power source (which defeats the purpose of having a UPS to extend uptime in the first place. . .).

The UPS is communicating with Quincy via a USB cable. . . originally connected through a USB hub.

Said USB hub is powered by the UPS, through a non-battery port.

So when the UPS switches from AC outlet to battery, the non-battery ports are unpowered. Meaning the USB hub is unpowered. Meaning the Quincy thinks that the UPS has died due to a sudden cessation of communications. Meaning Quincy will shut itself down to protect itself.

So after kicking myself a couple of times for making this dumb redundancy mistake (and saved myself a few wads of cash from buying expensive replacement parts), I've made the necessary adjustments so that Quincy will finally utilize the UPS properly.

Stupid me. . .

Whirly windy weekendy. . . October 5 2003, 08:07 pm
Whoa that was some weekend. Friday (the day I got older) was spent with Yan Yan. . . events included baking birthday cake, eating said cake, canoeing in Town Lake, having a picnic on said canoe, and being assaulted by an entire fleet of geese and ducks (pictures will be posted soon).

Saturday was spent at work and playing host for a small group of people who graced my humble birthday with their presence. Much interesting chatterings, hot-tubbings, DDRing, and Super-Bust-A-Moving occured. . . all in all an enjoyable evening.

Sunday found me at work again. . . if you call it that. Turns out a truck driver from the store next door knocked down the telephone pole. . . leaving the entire strip mall crippled. Transactions slowed to a standstill, but somehow we got through the day. Can't say it was enjoyable though. . .

Now for some quick downtime. . . before things start getting busy again. . .

The Fleet October 2 2003, 01:54 pm
Well. . . I got to my goal sooner than I thought. . . my little squadron now boasts 2 Battleships (with 16lb guns) and 2 Frigates (with 16lb guns). . . total crew numbers over 2000 men, and with 4 officers on each ship. . .

Now to see if I can actually take over a English colony that has 3000 men defending the place. . .

Aaaaarrrggggg. . . maties. . . October 1 2003, 12:59 am
Wow. . . I've been playing too much of this game. Pirates of the Caribbean is taking up way too much of my time. . . :P

But. . . it does a decent job of reminding of the old DOS/Windows game "Pirates! Gold". . . where you run around and trade goods, fight and board ships, and store loot. The Caribbean improves on that by making things look beautiful in 3D. Makes me smile almost as much as I smile upon the Bismark when I pan and view the little flotilla I have put together so far (2 Corvettes and 1 Caravel). . . my goal is to build up to 1 Battleship and 3 Frigates. . . but the monthly upkeep is probably going to drive me to bankruptcy. . .
