Happy birthday honey September 26 2005, 10:36 pm
Well, today was my sweetie's birthday. Unfortunately, since we're separated by 2000+ miles, the best I could do was send a single teddy bear armed with a bouquet of roses. Fortunately though, the teddy bear was up to the task and accomplished the mission I set out for it: Yanyan's happy, and that's all that matters.

Work has been hectic as usual, and me helping out a friend on in BFE with his home network until 1AM in the morning on Saturday certainly didn't help my health any. Don't know whether its due to the weather or what, but I'm definitely feeling the onset of fatigue and exhaustion. Going to have to watch my status, otherwise I'll be delisted from combat duty, which is a very bad thing.

Mixed weekend September 19 2005, 12:29 am
This weekend started off on a good foot when Yanyan called and said she managed to get on an earlier flight, which meant we would have three extra hours to be together. This would've been well and good. . . except the cargo haulers decided to be annoying and NOT divert her checked baggage onto the new flight, which resulted in extra mileage incurred going back and forth between the airport.

We started Saturday by running some minor errands, and then it was off to the Saxet Gunshow. Its been years since I've been to a gunshow, and it was fun going back and trying to recall each and every piece of firearm that had on display. However, Yanyan was a little put off by the exorbitant amount of testosterone present, so that dampered the fun a bit. The good thing was we agreed on what I'm getting for my birthday and Christmas. . . a Springfield Armory XD. . . I'm considering the 4" ported version, although I'm still undecided on the caliber (it comes in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .357 SIG). My original intention was to get a Glock, but the price difference between the two was not small change, and the performance would've been about the same. Thanks honey! :)

Apparently Dave & Busters started extending their Power Combo special where you dine and get a $10 card for $15 per person. So we took them up on the offer and munched on tasty food, and then spent the next few hours rampaging through the arcades. Since her next trip would be past her birthday, we decided to celebrate early. She looked like she had fun, and that's all that matters to me.

Unfortunately Sunday came too soon. . . so we stayed at home for lunch, and then started getting ready to take her for the flight home. The drive there was uneventful, although her check-in was surprisingly fast. Its never fun saying goodbyes, and the only saving grace was that she'll be back in two weeks.

After dropping her at the airport, I cruised silently to my physical training session, and proceeded to trade several hundred rounds of ammunition with other troopers. It was touch and go there for several minutes as I found myself hugging the ground with the opposing force pinned me there with overwhelming fire. But fortunately my reinforcements showed up shortly thereafter and we then proceeded to sweep up the stragglers in our path of fury. While I'm getting used to getting shot at, I still need to become adjusted to how Rasengan behaves in battle. Needs more work, me thinks. . .

When all's said and done though. . . I miss my cabbit. . . no fun getting all shot up during the day and come back to an empty home. . .

New Theme Song September 16 2005, 09:19 pm
Was woken up this morning by a very fast moving song, but the lyrics was forceful enough to make it memorable. Not too forceful to be angst, yet not too soft to yield to an anti-climax. . . it was just right.

Turns out the song is by Rob Thomas, "This is how a heart breaks". . .

Don't you wanna go for a ride
Just keep your hands inside
And make the most out of life
Now don't you take it for granted

Life is like a mean machine
It made a mess outta me
It left me caught between
Like an angry dream I was stranded

And I'm steady but I'm starting to shake
And I don't know how much more I can take

This is it now
Everybody get down
This is all I can take
This is how a heart breaks
You take a hit now you feel it break down
Make you stay wide awake
This is how a heart breaks

Don't you wanna go for a ride
Down to the other side
Feels so good you could cry
Now won't you do what I told you
I remember when you used to be shy
Yeah, once we were so fine
You and I why you gotta make it so hard on me

And I'm sorry but it's not a mistake
And I'm running but you're getting away

You're not the best thing that I knew
Never was never cared too much
For all this hanging around
It's just the same thing all the time
Never get what I want
Never get too close to the end of the line
You're just the same thing that I knew back before the time
When I was only for you

Good stuff. . . the lyrics contain enough of a fight to keep my adrenaline pumping. . . which is a very good thing. That being said, I forsee this becoming my new theme song. . . because when the going gets tough. . . I need every edge I can get to become tougher. . .

In the meantime. . . time to leave for the airport so I can go pick up Yanyan. . . should be a fun weekend ahead for us. . . :)

Expansion September 16 2005, 12:42 am
Well. . . since Yanyan's apparently curious enough to want to venture into the blog realm, I've decided to allow her to post here in the future. Going to take some time this weekend and set that up for her, so we'll see how well that goes.

Did I mention that this has been a really really busy month. . . ?

Long overdue update. . . September 12 2005, 12:13 am
Whee. . . this has been long overdue. . . but that's only because I've been that busy. . .

Spent Labor Day weekend up in Albany with Yanyan. Was definitely a good thing being with the wife again. We took a quick tour of the countryside, and spent a morning watching some horse races. After our abortive attempts at gambling in Vegas several weeks ago, I decided that the money we would've spent gambling has better use elsewhere. . . Nonetheless. . . it was relaxing and fun. Both of which I needed.

Things are hectic at work. . . while not because of any major projects, but just various bits and pieces of things that needed to be done. And it seems like for every one thing I complete, two more pop up to take its place. Not a good thing.

I picked up the Gundam craze again. . . been scourging through the internet to find some Gundam action figures that I've been trying to acquire for the past few years. . . but the bastards that make them has seen fit to NOT distribute any of the ones I want in my area. Its a freakin consipracy. . . I know it is. . . so now I think I spent a little to much money on this. . . time to go on a spending freeze. . . :P

Yesterday was spent hanging out with some of the troopers from Whiskey Company and chowing down on BBQ and watching the UT vs OSU game. Personally, I derived more pleasure watching the silly antics than from the game, although UT's comeback win was a nice icing on top of the cake.

Today we were supposed to go out for some more tactical training. . . but weather intervened and thus the mission was cancelled. I guess we can be called fair-weather troops. :P But with Yanyan coming in next weekend, I doubt I'll be able to make next Sunday's training session. . . :(
