After a bustling day at work yesterday I decided to take some time and rejoin the ACM groupies at Austin's party last night. Since Yan Yan was at work and wouldn't be home until after 4AM, I figured I would stay up until she came home, and a ACM party should go a long way in helping me stay awake. It was great seeing everyone again, alot of them I have barely seen over the summer. But at the same time I'm reminded of how much older I am compared to most of them, and am slightly saddened/sobered/depressed by that fact. Damn it. . . I'm getting too old for this. . . At 4AM I decided to risk giving Yan Yan a call, but didn't get an answer. Disappointed, I went to bed, but was nicely surprised at around 5AM when she snuck into bed. Definitely was a nice surprise. I did pay for staying up too late today by being semi-functional at work. Fortunately for me things were pretty slow today. Unfortunately for me, there was very little revenue trickling in. And another thing. . . the powers-that-be in Best Buy Worldwide Corporate Headquarters decided that no employee is allowed to carry a cell phone while on the clock. Which is a completely bullshit policy that only thick-headed pig-dump eating dumbasses would think up, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. I can understand their concern of unscrupulous employees wasting company time by chatting on the cell phone, but that's why there's such a thing called responsible cell phone use, also known as cell phone etiquette. Bit by bit. . . the disadvantages of working there are slowly outweighing the advantages of working there. The sooner I can find a egress, the better. . . Enough venting. . . time to get some sleep. . . I'm going to try and wash the car in the morning. . . something I've been trying to do for the past week. . . |

| Very little of note has happened in the last few days. Just been working like a chicken with its head chopped off, and taking some time away for myself to reorganize some things in my life/home. Lots of general maintenance and upkeep before I feel like venturing out into the world again. | |

Its been two months since I made a trip back to Camelot Command, and overall it was a pleseant experience. After I got off from work on Thurs (way later than expected, but that's another story in and of itself), I rushed home to meet Yan Yan and load up the car so we can get on the way. On the way home I could see lots of thunder and lightening in the far away sky, and I thought "great. . . just great. . . exactly what I needed. . .". Fortunately, all the storm clouds were further east of our travel route, so all we got was a really neat nature show. Spent Friday helping out in Freeport, doing alot of maintenance work father couldn't do in his current condition, as well as general upkeep on the Quincy units stationed there. Later that evening, evil twin, Yan Yan, and I ventured out to the Main Event (quasi Dave & Buster's like place) and tried out their laser tag place. Now, a word about laser tag in Plano, TX. Ever since Laser Storm closed down back in '96, there have been no good laser tag places (except for Q-Zar, but they forgot to pay their rent in '99, and were evicted). The arena at Main Event came close to be being good (multi-level is always a good thing), but unfortunately the entire map felt cramped. The equipment was decent (because it was new), but the fog/mist distributor was laying it on a bit too thick. Both Travis and I think it deserves another review before make a final decision. In his case, he needs to be on a team with more single cute girls. Today I got a haircut done at home before prepping for departure at Freeport. The trip home was fairly uneventful, except for the fact that this time around it was not the car that was goading me to go faster. . . it was a really cute passenger who pouted that I wasn't pushing the car harder. Man. . . talk about living vicariously through other people. . . On the other hand, I managed to squeeze a hell of a lot better milage than I normally would if I drove slower. I averaged about 22MPG when going 70MPH, but easily broke 23MPG+ when going ~80MPH. Go figure. . . So I guess now I have a reason to go fast again. . . :) |

After several somewhat productive days at work, I finally got a day off to do some maintenance work on OC4. Funny how stuff that needed to be done (such as daily chores) gets piled up when you're busy with something. But at least they're mostly squared away. Spent some time discussing future options with Rus lately, and it seems that Project Outer Haven might be resurrected sometime soon. As far as we can tell its do-able. . . we just have to be sure that there is a market before we commit. Interesting times. . . Going back to Plano for a quick visit tomorrow night after work. . . thankfully Yan Yan will be beside me keeping me away for the late night drive. Plans include retake of my graduation photos, getting a haircut, visiting my HS teacher and touring the Dallas Musuem of Art. . . that last one assuming I can find the damn place. . . |

Today (the 15th, not the 16th) marks the end of the third month Yan Yan and I have been together. While I cannot say every bit of it has been a bliss, I can say that we have learned alot from each other and the future looks pretty bright. So to celebrate, I decided to surprise her at the end of work with a small bouquet of roses. . . except she left Design Edge about 30 seconds before I got there. Ironically, as I departed in a dejected mood, I saw her car stuck in traffic at a stoplight. And thus a sojourn ensued from DE's parking lot to her apartment, with me tailing her and she being completely oblivious to the fact. A nice game of cat and mouse (in rush hour traffic, no less) later, she was laughing hysterically in my arms as we recounted each of our version of what happened to the other (yeah, she finally spotted me shortly before we got to her place). . . it was fun. Dinner consisted of one point five pounds of extra moist brisket from Rudy's (haven't been there in ages. . .). . . which one point one pounds of it were consumed along with some potatoe salad and three quarter links of sausage. Good stuff. . . Rudy's. . . With that much food, we had to walk it off, so we stopped by Nordstrom's Grand Opening at Barton Creek and peered cautiously at the lastest fashions and their price tags. . . All in all, it was a fun evening. . . unfortunately she had to work tonight, and I have to get up early in the morning for some special operations training with the county sheriff. . . maybe we will do some more celebrating after my training is over. . . Last but not least, heard from Kyle today. . . it seems that he's pretty optimistic about the bike being ready this weekend. I'm crossing my fingers. . . |

| Bring Me To Life | August 13 2003, 09:39 pm |

Wow. . . I haven't felt this alive in a while. . . I don't know why, but for the past several weeks I feel like my life-force was slowing slipping away, as my consciousness began to behave in a drunken stupor. . . But ever since I decided to tackle this SQL database, it seems as a part of my brain that I didn't realize was missing began to be active again. . . even after a ridiculous day at work. I stayed two hours past my original quitting time today because stuff needed to be done and nobody else was getting it done. While it kills my personal time, at least our understrength tech bench won't be under as much pressure from customers wondering why their computer is taking so long to be repaired. Granted, if they actually watched what they were doing on the web and stopped clicking those pop-up windows that says they won one million dollars (USD), they wouldn't be having problems in the first place. . . but maybe that's expecting too much. . .
How can you see into my eyes like open doors Leading you down into my core Where I’ve become so numb Without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold Until you find it there and lead it back home =Chrous= (Wake me up) Wake me up inside (I can’t wake up) Wake me up inside (Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark (Wake me up) Bid my blood to run (I can’t wake up) Before I come undone (Save me) Save me from the nothing I’ve become Now that I know what I’m without You can't just leave me Breathe into me and make me real Bring me to life =Chorus= Frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead. . . All this time I can't believe I couldn't see Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems Got to open my eyes to everything Without a thought without a voice without a soul Don't let me die here There must be something more Bring me to life =Chorus= (Bring me to life) I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside (Bring me to life) |

So it seems that the Blaster worm is doing a great job screwing up the computers of those people who don't know how to protect themselves. The problem is, there are those who insist with the belief that having some kind of anti-virus software installed on their system would make them immune from EVERYTHING. How I wish I could smack them around and make them see reality, but unfortunately according to the brass that would not be in the best interest of the company. What then is the best interest? More ignorant customers? I got halfway through working with that new database in Access when I realized that I should be working with it in MySQL. Grr. . . guess I have to start from scratch as soon as I finish installing MySQL on the server. . . At least I know what kind of organization for my tables will be. . . |

| Weekend Getaway | August 11 2003, 12:38 am |

Busy weekend. . . that was. . . Friday after work I headed down to Mark Kimbrough's newly finished lake house with Yan Yan to party with the DE gang. . . it was good seeing most of them again. We snagged a good deal of lake-dipping time. . . plus several rousing rounds of ping pong (my first time playing, no less). Good stuff, that. . . Saturday morning was crappy, since I had to get up at an ungodly hour for a uneventful morning meeting (which everyone assumed that breakfast would be present, but it wasn't. . .), and then working for the next eight hours with no end of customers in sight. After I got off from work, I decided to spend some time with Yan Yan since she seemed to be upset about something at the end of Friday night. Instead found myself drafted to be the handyman and install the pulley system for their custom built drapes. Oh well. . . at least got to know her roommates better (to avoid awkward silences in the future) and had a nice long chat with Yan Yan about what's to come in the future. All's well that ends well. . . Now I get to clean up the place and work on the new database system I started on while I was at Yan Yan's. . . fun stuff. . . |

Well. . . after some fiddling and twiddling and finicking and paddaling. . . Quincy XI is alive and kicking. The whole thing is so silent that I think it qualifies as the first "Stealth" capable computing core in the Quincy series. That and it also looks uber cool in solid black (I even went out of my way to get black face plated drives). . . The unit is currently undergoing burn-in tests. . . although it passed muster in my book when Yan Yan and I tried watching some Trigun tonight while munching on steak and veggies. . . (yeah. . . laser tag didn't happen. . . Katherine decided to bail, which meant Rus wasn't going anywhere. . .) |

After much wrangling and waiting and drooling and accumulating funds, I finally broke down and ordered the last two components necessary for the late Media Center PC project. They're here. . . sitting on my dining table, waiting to be assembled. . . I don't know why, I can't explain it, but I always get a kick out of building a new system. Its like Legos to me. . . except more fun. . . Mmmmmmmm. . . Legos. . . its been a while since I played with Legos. . . The last two days at work were relatively easy, even when dealing with the two new supervisors (one for the tech bench, one for computer sales). . . both seem to be pretty competent and professional, so we'll see how things shape out in the coming weeks. Both of them promise significant results by the end of the month, so its going to be a fun ride. . . Had lunch with Rus yesterday and we spent the afternoon playing Risk 2210. I was under the assumption that he had played before, but it wasn't until I was thoroughly kicking him off of the world map before I realized that he's played maybe once or twice of the original Risk (not 2210). Ooops on my part. . . but at least he knows what the game is like, and is better prepared for the rematch. . . On the other hand, the rebel troops that were scattered across the map in the two-player game were putting up a good fight. . . both of us took heavy losses when going up against them. . . stupid rebels. . . Off to build Quincy XI. . . :) And then prep for tonight's laser tag game with Rus, Katherine, and Yan Yan. . . Wheeeeee. . . |

| Halo. . . | August 3 2003, 11:45 am |
|
Well, I did keel over and sleep like a potatoe on Friday, and last night I stayed up till 4:30AM finishing Halo with Cosmo. While its not something I recommend doing after 8+ hours of work. . . it was a worthwhile experience experiencing the cinematics of the game. I can see why people say Bungie did such a great job in making the game. . . the overall effects made the entire game very very immersive. On the other hand. . . Yan Yan didn't feel very immersive last night. Apparently she's mad at me now because I took some time to play while she and her roommates worked on their apartment (helped them move on the 31st right after I got off from work, was feeling ill that day but overexerted myself anyways). . . Guess I'll have to spend the rest of the day figuring out what happened there. . . Let's see. . . what else happened? Work. . . work. . . becoming dehydrated and overheated last week. . . helped Yan Yan move. . . work. . . work. . . yup. . . I think that about sums it up. . . Now I get to sit in unbridled anticipation for Kyle's announcement that Shadow Phoenix is ready to ride again. . . |

Wow. . . time flies when things happen. It has been one year since RPM Freelancers V3.0 went online, and much has transpired since then. Nonetheless. . . Welcome, everyone, to the new home of RPM Freelancers Special Operations Division. There have been very little changes made other than the URL change, and that is pretty much going to be permanent from here on out. . . Life's been busy. . . throwing curveballs at me, that is. And its the best I can do to dodge and shoot back in everyway I can. Its not fun, let me tell you. . . Have to finish brunch and another project I'm working on before going to work. Will have a bigger status report later this evening (unless I keel over and fall dead asleep in bed when I come home from work. . .) |
