Bigger Oops. . . August 31 2002, 04:08 pm
So I was joking about bring in the emergency room for the motorcycle parking accident last night. I had some minor abrasions on my elbow, nothing major.

However, I did find myself in the hospital (emergency room no less) today, after what was suppose to be leisurely ride with some other bikers. We had cruised back and forth along Devil's Backbone a couple of times, no problems. But when we started heading back for lunch at the Salt Lick, I managed to crash on a curve. I went summersaulting over the bike, and rolled and flopped a couple of times on the ground, and came to a stop in a pile of dead brush. I had my helmet, gloves, and boots on for protective gear, and was wearing a long sleeve shirt and jeans.

Got up as soon as I came to a stop, and took stock of things. Physically I was worse for wear, but pretty soon I noticed my right arm was not functioning correctly. A more thorough examination revealed that I had broken my collar bone (the clavical in medical terms). Otherwise I had no injuries.

The bike on the other hand looked like a mess. At first look it was obvuously not street legal anymore: missing rear view mirrors and turn signals. The front wheel spoiler was cracked and off at an angle, and the rest of the bike suffered cosmetic damage everywhere. Not exactly a pleasant sight. But the other riders soon converged on my position, and assisted in the recovery operation. State troopers and sheriffs stopped by to take down information, and it was off on an ambulance ride for me.

So, after a torn shirt, a moderately damaged motorcycle, and a short trip to the hospital later, I am now confined at OC3 on medical leave while my bones mend themselves (6-8 weeks, they say). A rather eventful day. . .

On a side note, my boots and my helmet definitely prevented further injury, although I've been told that even if I was wearing my jacket, there was no preventing that collar bone from cracking. It could have been a whole lot worse, I suppose. . . now if only I could find a comfortable position to rest my arm in. . . :P

(Mis)Adventures. . . August 30 2002, 07:25 pm
So it turns out my appeals is still on hold while they sort out the newly arrived suckers who're paying money for phantom parking spots. Furthermore, they know that the appeals form is messed up, but they assured me repeatedly that the original text I sent was recieved intact. Guess we'll know for sure when I find out how they judge on it.

Spent a few hours at Mixer trying to find out why the network teaming isn't working correctly. Turns out an acquaintence of An's stumbled upon the fact that the network cards was the cause of email outages yesterday, so now I'm following up on that lead to see what could be the cause of it. Apparently there's also a motorcycling day-trip being planned for tomorrow, so I may or may not update tomorrow, depending on how that trip goes.

Also found out that a few ex-coworkers are leaving Design Edge, so I trotted out to Opal Divine's to say my farewells. Carrie is becoming a firewoman (unfortunately she missed the cutoff for the AFD by 4 places), and Eric's heading out to LA for new (mis)adventures. Also saw Allison (boss's daughter) there. Last time I saw her was almost a year ago, and we traded glances and smiles. She looks damn good. Doing well I mean. Okay, I'm shutting up before I say something to incriminate myself.

Last but not least, spent a good deal of time talking to a web developement whiz while at OD's. Seems that a certain little project he's working on has tremendous potential value. Since I'm not really doing anything at the moment, I offered to help out with what I can. I can't really talk about what the project is about, but I can say that if it does take off, it will be a REALLY good thing. Really. I mean, he offered me a partnership, how can I go wrong with that?

Now if only Ryan would hurry up and arrive at OC3 so we can resume SEAL training. . . supposedly there is another group composed of ACM members that is starting from Week 1 this coming Monday. Mayhaps I will join with them to keep myself in shape.

Yet another road block. . . August 30 2002, 11:43 am
This sucks. Either my allergies are acting up (which it shouldn't) or I'm coming down with something serious (which would suck). Regardless of which, all I know is I'm feeling sick all over, and I have too many errands to run today to take the day off.

To make matters worse, not only did I NOT recieve a response from the Parking Gestapo regarding my appeals, but they've already forwarded me to a collections agency. How's that for screwing over students? Not only will they ignore your "innoncent-until-proven-guilty" right, they let loose the dogs of war when they feel like it. At this point I am seriously considering calling the local news station up and see if they're willing to do some investigative reporting on this sorry excuse of a revenue generator for the university.

Meanwhile, Calima is obviously dreaming about something tasty, because while she's lying on the floor taking a nap, her tongue is licking her lips like she just finished a meal. What I'd give for the carefree lifestyle she has right now. . .

Time to go back to campus and hopefully resolve this ticketing bullshit. Watch I get another parking ticket while I am trying to resolve these two.

I have returned. . . August 29 2002, 05:29 pm
Its nice to be home again after being gone for a week. Just finalized setting up everything in OC3, and so far Quincy VII looks to be doing well. Still have to set up my PS2 which is sitting in its carrying bag, but I guess that can wait until after I pick up Calima.

Site updates should resume its normal flow again. I miss you all too.

Almost time. . . August 28 2002, 06:03 pm
After several days of much needed downtime, my little R&R session is drawing to a close. Quincy VII is almost fully operational, so its time to bring her back to Outpost Command III and reinstate her to full active duty. Barring some ungodly catastrophe, I should be back at OC3 by sometime tomorrow.

Unfortunately, Patricia has informed me that Calima has been quite unresponsive during her stay there. Hopefully Calima will be in a better mood when I return, and I'll really have to find something to repay Patricia for her troubles. If anyone has any good ideas, I'm all ears.

Quincy VII lives. . . again. . . August 24 2002, 12:55 am
After extensive testing, it was determined that the CPU and motherboard were both faulty, and were summarily replaced. Quincy VII is now sporting an upgraded processor (AMD XP 1800+) and a new motherboard (Soyo Dragon Lite). System stability is finally restored, and steps are being taken to restore full functionality to the rest of the computer core.

Situational Update August 23 2002, 03:05 pm
It has been 15 hours since the operation to restore Quincy VII started at Camelot Command, but to no avail. Just about every piece of hardware that could be affected has been replaced and tested, but the system is still completely unstable. The only piece of hardware that remains to be replaced is the CPU, and unfortunately that is the only piece of hardware I do not have a spare of. Time to go shopping I suppose. . .

On a completely unrelated note, my final grades have been posted, and I am proud to announce that after 4 years and 3 months, I have finally graduated and out of school. Unofficially, of course. Officially, I'm still screwed until the Parking & Transportation Gestapo gets their crap together and resolve the mess they got me into. Bastards. . .

Mini-Exodus August 22 2002, 06:43 pm
As I am writing this, final preparations are being completed in the anticipation of moving Quincy VII to Camelot Command for emergency repairs. Quincy VIII have been assigned as a support unit as well for this trip.

Due to the nature of such a move, Calima the Spymaster has been sent to Lady Lew's care (as well as extensive training in inter-feline protocols). Hopefully she will become a better spymaster upon my return. I am grateful for Patricia's cooperation in this last minute endeavour, and I shall have to think of some way to repay her in the future.

This is Lord Paladin, departing Outpost Command III. ETR (Estimated Time of Return) unknown. Out.

RIP. . . Quincy VII. . . August 22 2002, 05:19 am
After more than three days of emergency repairs on the system, I am afraid I am going to have to pronounce Quincy VII certifiably senile and utterly brain-dead. I believe I have traced the problem to a faulty motherboard, but without a spare board to work on, I cannot prove it, nor can I live with the current status of the system. My conclusion was the result of numerous hours of tweaking with the onboard hardware, as well as extensive web searches for similar cases (and it appears there have been a couple, so I know other people have had the same problem I am experiencing).

This being the case, I have decided to move up my scheduled trip of going back to Camelot Command in order to requisition resources to repair Quincy VII (I'm bringing her with me). I had originally planned for leaving early next week, but because I cannot get any sleep while Quincy VII remains inoperable, I need a rapid resolution to this mess.

*sigh*. . . Quincy VII was a good machine. . . I knew she had been experiencing difficulties for a while now, and asked her to hold on until the end of school. And held on she did, until the bitter end. . . She's only been operational for a little over a year, and I have just begun to get to know her. . . I have never had a system die in my arms like this, so pardon me if I sound a little sentimental. . . May you rest in a electronically neutral peace, Quincy VII, for you have served me well and brought honor for us all.

I hate Microsoft August 21 2002, 01:44 pm
Almost 48 hours later, I am still no closer to restoring full functionality to Quincy VII than I had when the operation first started. Windows XP Professional insists on crashing whenever it feels like, and refuses to support my dual-monitor setup correctly. Windows 2000 Professional would not even install properly, citing failure to load files for the CD, or that certain files could not be found (even though it is in plain sight).

I have already tried switching hardware devices, updating the motherboard BIOS, reseating all the connections, and even tried throwing the thing along with my laundry, and nothing has worked so far. Quite irritating, this. . .

As I said before, until Quincy VII is fully operational again, site updates will have to wait. . . other than these little situational updates which I am sure all of you find most interesting. . . :)

Aftermath August 19 2002, 06:55 pm
So lunch with Jennifer became an all-afternoon affair. . . we started with Vietnamese food at Pho Cong Ly (which changed their name to Mekong River for some reason), and then moved to Momoko's and had bubble tea. After bubble tea we hopped next door to the actual shop area and poked and prodded at the nifty Japanese import merchandise.

That was when I saw the greatest thing ever. . . the Gundam GP-03 Denodrum Space Battle Armor model kit, with a box the size of a small file cabinet, and priced at $300.00. *drool*. . . :)

Anyways, after bubble tea, since neither of us had anything to do for the afternoon and the weather was awesome, we migrated to Town Lake and went canoeing for a couple of hours. I was adventurous enough to take a dip (the water was NICE), but she wasn't and cited fear of water. *chuckle* Doesn't mean I can't splash her with water though. . . *evil grin*

So she tried to insist in buying me lunch, in celebration of me finishing school, but I wouldn't have any of that. And thus I ended up paying for most of everything (except for the bubble tea), but it was all good.

Anyways. . . I'll be rebuilding Quincy VII tonight, so I might be out of the loop and late in the site updates, so please bear with me.

As much as I want to shout out me accomplishing my degree at the moment, I am withholding that until I recieve the official confirmation from my passing grade.

End of an Age. . . August 19 2002, 11:53 am
Thanks to my ex calling me late at night last night, I managed to wake up late this morning for the final battle. The final exam started at 9:00AM. I woke up at 8:50AM. Theoretically one should be able to make it to campus from my position within 10 minutes. I eeked by with 15.

The battle itself was worthy of a saga comparable to the Illiad. The first skirmish involved dealing with page allocation strategies, and it was dealt with promptly. The next order of battle involved virtual memory structures and varies support units, and in and of itself was the most difficult portion of the battle. We took heavy casualties in fighting this thing off, but we eventually did. Fortunately for us, the exam seemed to only have that as their main punch, as the reserve units of threading locks, distributed systems, and network topologies did not put up much of a fight. The entire battle took only 45 minutes out of the allotted time of 3 hours. I decided to be nice and stay an extra 45 minutes just so the professor would not be pissed at me finishing so early.

And thus concludes the final final exam I would have to take for a while. . . this is the time where one asks themselves, "now that you have completed (insert enormous feat), what are you going to do?". . .

I went and had myself a medium smoothie at Wendy's.

Rather anti-climatic, I know. And in fact, I felt jipped.

So to make up for that, I'm going to have lunch with Jennifer.

And so ends yet another chapter in my tapestry of life. I'll get around to adding this to my autobiography one of these days.

I came. . . I saw. . . I loved. . . I fell. . . I slaved. . . I fought. . . I conquered. . .

Life is good.

Quicky Project August 17 2002, 05:48 pm
So I managed to get my hands on a slightly used GeForce3 TI500 64MB AGP. However, it had a tendency to not display crappy images at anything more than 800x600. So I decided to go sit down this afternoon and do what I do best: tinkering with my computers.

The end result is I moved the Velocity128/Voodoo2 combo off of Quincy V (since it is stuck on a monitor that has a max res of 800x600), and installed the GF3 into it. The Voodoo2 I moved to the (relatively) new Dell Optiplex box (I haven't created a name for it yet, and it will be using that same 800x600 monitor as well) that I am going to install Linux on shortly, just to see what it can do. The Velocity 128 I moved onto Quincy VII so that I can take advantage of dual monitors (the second monitor has a max res of 1024x768).

And let me tell you. . . once you start using dual monitors, you open up a whole new world of possibilities for your productivity. And after that, you ain't going back to a dinky little one-monitor setup. Its almost addictive as high-speed internet access. Almost. :)

I shall now go forth and enjoy my newly modified setup some more. Cheers!

Eureka! August 16 2002, 11:00 am
At last. . . I have found the perfect location for the future construction site of Camelot Command II. Now I'll just have to accrue the funds for this purchase.

Future Site of Camelot Command II

Obviously, once I finally stake a claim on the property, developement of fortifications will follow. I'm thinking a mountain fortress supported by a small naval shipyard. . . and wireless defense systems located throughout the borders of the island. *rubs fingers together in a Dr.-Evil-ish way*. . . muwahahahaha. . .

Reflections of Passion August 15 2002, 03:43 pm
After scratching my head for a while in contemplating what I wanted to work on next (besides updating this website), I decided to direct my efforts in mastering a particular piece of piano music. It has been a long while since I've actually sat down and played, and I figured I better retain that skill before I lose it.

Reflections of Passion

This should be an interesting challenge, since the last piece I learned was the theme for Final Fantasy VI. Ahh. . . the joys of teaching oneself things. . .

Ugh. . . awful morning. . . could not wake up, and my brain currently feels like mush. Don't know why. Must be feeling under the weather. . .

Went to help out at Mixer Group after class yesterday. Turns out SBC "forgot" to resolve some DNS issues on their side, which is why MG haven't been able to send mail properly. Should've known. . . damn SBC. . .

Since my brain is not fully functional today I'll be wrapping up remaining assignments for my OS class, before heading to MG to help them set up their new workstation-class laptop (a Dell M50).

Does anyone know who Tom Cordar is? I keep on getting calls from him, but I do not know who he is. . .

Utterly ludicrious August 14 2002, 10:34 am
Okay, I get an automated email response back regarding my online appeal process. It turns out my appeals text was completely BUTCHERED by their form parser. They had a limit of thirty lines (what kind of an appeals process is that?), and I was in that limit. I counted it: thirty lines exact. But then the form parsed my text to where it became completely unreadable, not to mention it chopped off the last third of my appeals.

My original appeal text

The email response I got the morning after (editted to protect the innocent)

WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT IS THIS?!?!?!?!

FREAKIN FASCIST NAZIS!!!!! August 13 2002, 11:18 pm
That's it. . . its on now. . .

This was a bad day that turned into a rather tenacious nightmare. First off, late in the afternoon my cable connection starts fritzing out. A quick call to Road Runner confirmed that they were working on something in the area. I assumed that as soon as they were done, everything would be peachy again. That was my mistake. . . I assumed. Never assume.

Shortly thereafter, my cable connection completely dies. No internet. No cable TV. I step outside to the cable junction box, and lo and behold, bits and pieces of cables and cable connectors lying on the ground. Apparently a technician had been out installing service for a new resident, and managed to bump my service out of bounds. Repeated calls to customer service proved to be useless, as they deny responsibility, and cannot schedule a tech out until Thursday afternoon. Keep in mind my OS project is due Wedensday at 11:59PM. So I resigned myself to suit up and head for campus to try and work on the project some more.

Went for a swim, came back, cleaned up, suited up, and stopped for a quick dinner. Got to campus, worked on code, worked on code some more, and finally got yet another part completed (I'm at about 90% completion now). Decided to call it early and head home. What do I find on waiting on my bike? Two parking tickets. Count them. Two tickets for the same violation.

There are times when a person has to draw the line and defend their well being. This is one of those times. The first time (and only other time) I got a ticket was when I parked on the sidewalk in the back of the CS building. I got cited for parking on sidewalk, so I figured fair enough, they got me. This time I parked in a little walled off area, where there is no posted signs, but there is a rusting hulk of a rack that takes up about half of the space. My bike fits in perfectly in the remaining half.

I had arrived on campus at about 7:45-8:00PMish. Apparently the Parking & Transportation Secret Police walked up 15 minutes later and slapped on the first ticket. Less than two hours later, he/she slaps on another ticket (sequential citation numbers, so I know its the same person, plus they tried to use a lame different violation to justify the second, and much larger, fine), and manages to damage my rear-view mirror at the same time.

Where is the justice in this? Is the P&T Gestapo so short on funds they have to resort to such extortion? Not only extortion, they've damage my bike in the process. Where in their code of conduct justifies damaging personal property when issuing citations? Is there no justice in this world? And yes I am appealing the citations. BOTH of them.

Where I parked

I hereby vow my revenge on this bullshit UT calls its P&T department. I will exact my revenge in one form or another one day. Mark my words.

Nostalgia August 13 2002, 02:11 pm
For some unknown reason I decided to listen to Yanni again. For all you Yanni naysayers, hush. While he may be a little too showy during concerts, and some of you question the basis of his works, I still say hush. To each his/her own.

And because I started listening to Yanni, my writer's block went away for a little bit, so I took up my keyboard and started writing out some more in the biography section. I will probably add more throughout the day, as my brain deciphers some locked away memories and analyze them for presentation.

Calima is still bouncing off of the walls today, but my OS project is nearly 66% complete (was sitting at 33% yesterday). Less than 34 hours left to go. . .

Days. . . August 13 2002, 12:00 am
Well, luckily for me I didn't get any sicker during the course of the day. However, my OS project's progress has reached a snail's pace, which is unacceptable. This is because my brain is stuck in a infinite loop and refuses to break out of it, even if I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del. Rather annoying. . .

Meanwhile, Calima is literally bouncing off of the walls today. I don't know what's going on inside that little feline mind of hers, but she's been caroaming throughout OC3, and wrapping herself up in the white carpet for no apparent reason (I highly doubt she was playing hide n' seek). I think she's getting stir crazy being cooped up indoors all day. At least, I'm getting stir crazy staring at this stupid program all day. . .

Ryan didn't show up for SEAL training today, nor did he call in advance to announce his absence. Rather peculiar. Especially after his announcement (see his webpage) that he bumped into his evil-ex and her current consort. Fortunately I don't have this problem, as my ex is out of state for the forseeable future (I will abstain from debating whether or not she is evil, and no I do not know whether she is currently entertaining a consort).

The only bright spot of my day was this: 7 more days (actually, 2 class days and 1 final exam day) until I graduate!!!

Although it is a tad bit late, I had to remind myself to take some time in rememberance of the famed Computer Scientist Edsger Dijkstra's recent passing. Although I have not had the fortune to be taught under him (even though we were on the same campus), his works have been praised in every CS class I've taken. Arguably he was the front and foremost the best of the computer industry, and with luck he should be enjoying Mozart while debating with Turing.

City of Lost Souls August 11 2002, 01:33 am
Just got back from a dinner and a movie. The dinner (which took place after the movie) was at Kerby Kerby (short for Kerby Lane, on Kerby Lane). Food was good, company was pleasant, and spent the first half of dinner playing peek-a-boo with a cute girl at the next table. Unfortunately she left before I could get her number.

As for the movie, City of Lost Souls by reknowned Japanese director Takashi Miike, it was an interesting trip down post-modern interpretative art. Whereas most movies nowadays boast of explosive fighting scenes and very little plot, this one had a very slippery plot and artistically well done confrontations.

If you don't want to know the plot, skip to the next paragraph. The premise of the whole story is that a Brazilian hired gun somehow fell in love with a Chinese hair dresser. But when she is deported from Japan, he literally flies in, saves her, and lands explosively in a Japanese metropolis. Their arrival does not go unnoticed, as the girl's sadistic male friend (I wouldn't go so far as calling him the ex-boyfriend) manages to catch up with them and generally make everyone's life miserable. Mario, the protagonist, spends the rest of the movie trying to find a way to get the two of them out of Japan, calling on Brazilians and Japanese who think they're Brazilians for assistance. Pretty soon their endeavour runs amuck of the Yakuza, and the rest of the film becomes a fierce confrontation between all three sides. The sadistic male friend (with a homosexual bodyguard, no less) is killed in a ping pong match with an upstart Yakuza psychopath (who killed his own boss earlier in the movie), and the final showdown between Mario and the Yakuza ended with the word "Love" written in blood in the alley they dueled in. Does the hero get the girl, Kei, in the end? Sort of, except for the existence of the jealous ex-girlfriend, Lucia, which reminds everyone that "hell hath no wrath like a woman scorned".

Acting wise, it was pointed out to me that some of the characters could barely speak Japanese (the movie was subtitled). Other than that, the dynamic facial expressions shown throughout the movie was a treat and a source of comic relief. Fortunately, every action scene was done perfectly, smoothly, and with just the right amount of artistic sense. There were no overt amounts of gratuitous violence, but enough of it to remind you that this film warrants at least a "R" rating. However, I do believe the gratuitous male nudity at the beginning of the movie warrants an "NC-17". But that's just me.

On a side note, one character introduced in the film proved to be a psychological/mental/emotional disturbance. Her mere presence in the film was a stark contrast to the harsh and unforgiving world the film was portraying, and the irony is definitely not lost. Furthermore I got the sense that whomever she touches intimately (not in a sexual way, mind you) will die before the end of the movie. A Black Widow indeed, and she's only a child.

Overall, definitely something different, and definitely not something I was expecting from a Japanese film. But for the $4.50 admission we paid at the Alamo Drafthouse (Downtown), I think it was worth the money.

Oh, and if anyone's wondering, Calima decided to curl up in my lap as I'm writing this. She didn't start doing this until after her trip to the vet, so I guess ultimately it was money well spent. :P

Equally Bad Afternoon. . . August 10 2002, 04:31 pm
Okay, this crappy weather is really starting to annoy me. First it decides to rain, unannounced, on my unprotected and beloved Enigma One. Then it lets the sun sneak out for about fifteen seconds, luring me to a sense of false security so that I'd venture out and wipe down the bike and try and cover it up. As soon as I finish wiping, rain drops starts coming down again. Grrrrrrrr. . .

And the maintenance crew is still not in sight. I've called the main office about once every hour on the hour since 13:30, and have been given the "They're on the way" speel every single time. I believe its time to make use of my tax dollars and call in the housing inspector (again).

Eventful Day August 10 2002, 02:08 am
Semi-interesting day today (Friday). Got up at 9AM feeling full of energy, and decided to goof around with the webpage a bit more. Instead, after breakfast (yet another bowl of cereals) I get a call from a place I am contracting for, saying they're still having email problems from when they messed around with the servers without my knowledge. So I went to class, and decided to take a quick lunch before heading to work. As I left Wendy's, I hear a female's voice calling me "Nipples!"

Well, there is a story of me getting the name Nipples. Basically, we were playing water volleyball one day, and because I was doing too good of a job serving, the opposite team decided to try and distract me. One of them started commenting on how enticing my nipples looked. I returned the favor with a "come hither" remark. And the name stuck ever since then. Anyways, it turns out Patricia was also having lunch there, so we spent a few seconds socializing.

Spent a few hours at work I stablized the network, and celebrated the company's first official release. And then went home just in time for SEAL training (it was brutal, thanks for asking). After training, it was off to Souper Spud (full of healthy foods), Dave & Busters (full of pretty women), and then back home for website updates!

(And no, the maintenance crew has yet to repair the hole in the ceiling).

(And there's only one more week of class before I take my last final and graduate at last. . .)

Modified the Introduction page so that it now sports a random image script. Supposedly every time you hit refresh the image would change to something different. It only works for me if I delete my cache, however. :P

In other news, they did come today to do some work on the leak in my ceiling, except they left things half done. Apparently the leak upstairs is fixed. But I still have a big squarish hole above my bathtub (underneath the 2nd floor's bathtub, no less). :P

Decided to fiddle with the site layout some more. Re-did the color scheme so it fits better with the rest of the site. Also took out all the "underlines" for text links. It was beginning to annoy me. I've recieved suggestions to reduce the size of the two backgrounds to speedup load time, so I'll be tackling that problem next.

Bio Updates August 8 2002, 11:51 am
Had some extra time after breakfast (bowl of cereals), so decided to work on the Biography some more. Ended up updating two sections of it, but still having writer's block on how to write up Section IV. I guess I'll have to figure it out eventually.

Dinner Time August 8 2002, 09:36 am
Went out for dinner with Jennifer last night. Haven't seen her in a while, so we spent about three hours at the restaurant chatting away, and then retired to my place and chatted some more. Its been so long since we last got together, and it was obvious she changed somewhat. But then again, when I compare myself now to what I was a year ago, I've changed some too.

In case anyone's wondering, yes, I paid for the lady's dinner. What self-respecting knight in shiny (okay, not quite so shiny) armor wouldn't for a fair damsel like her?

So that's my excuse for having no site updates last night. :P

Style Update August 7 2002, 11:36 am
After getting suggestions to start using CSS, I decided to give it a shot. So I spent the morning learning about the various syntax and usage of CSS, and have implemented them into the page. Most of them are not noticeable, but there are a couple that definitely help the style of the page out. I'm still grasping with how to handle the color styles for the link, and I guess I'll find something I like after fiddling with it some more.

On another note, there's a big hole in my bathroom right now, and my allergies are acting up because of all the contaminants floating in. I guess if the maintenance people can't get their act together soon, I'll have to give the housing inspector a courtesy call.

Stats Update August 6 2002, 02:41 am
Decided to revamp how I presented my list of commands. Now the links takes you to a page where it lists the basic specs of each respective vessel. It didn't turn out as well as I thought it would, so I might change it again in the near future.

Bio Update August 5 2002, 12:17 am
Feeling depressed, so decided to flesh out the autobiography a bit more. I decided to concentrate on the first third of my life, since the audience with my grandfather left a subtle taste of nostalgia in my mouth. Its very sad to admit that even age can bring down a great man; he's currently 84, yet he's one of the strongest cornerstones in my life. *sigh*. . .

Eventful trip August 4 2002, 08:36 pm
Got back from HQ today. It was an eventful trip. Talked to the representative at the shipyard for my new ship, and everything looks to be on schedule. Was also summoned for an audience with my grandfather, and that was an interesting experience at that (one which I'm not inclined to delve into). Other than that, it was a sobering trip, since there wasn't many good things happening, but tons of bad things happening. The ticker is I really don't want to talk about any of them. *sigh*. . . Not the best way to start off this week. . .

Laser Tag and DDR August 2 2002, 01:15 am
Just got back from an interesting time at Blazer Tag in Austin, TX. Thurs nights are Ladies' Night at the place, and the ladies didn't show up until after we decided to leave. Next time we'll have to go later at night. Other than that everyone had a fairly good time. The ACMers with me in the Green Team did fairly well, while the other ACMers in the Yellow and Red Team got slaughtered. Go team!

Before and after the game, we spent almost a good hour pounding on the DDR machine. I must say. . . a few months ago I'd bash it without a second thought, but now I have a new found respect for this device. It tests your feet-eye coordination, which is complementary to my current SEAL training. Besides, its developing my endurance in leg muscles, as well as improving me being able to adapt the change in balance after shifting my feet around so much.

All in all, a fun night. Now I have to finish the last problem on my OS homework. And then off to HQ this afternoon, until I return Sunday afternoon for some water volleyball. Laters.

New Stuff August 1 2002, 01:11 pm
Expanded the stuffings in the Stuff section a little. Added a page for pictures of Calima. Also opened up a whole new portion dedicated to my writings (all of which were done for class, but still a good read in my humble opinion). These are completely new materials added to this site, mainly because I'm almost done with school, and feel that my writings could enjoy some more critiquing by a wider audience.

Calima to the Infirmary August 1 2002, 10:53 am
Just got back from dropping the feline off at the local infirmary. Since she was a stray until bivouacking at my place, I figured she needed to be checked up and "fixed" as soon as. Doctors did say she seems to be very healthy, and they'll let me know if any complications develope. Also decided to leave her there for the weekend, since I'm due at HQ tomorrow afternoon in order talk to the shipyards about my new ship.

*evil grin*. . . new ship. . . *drool*. . .

Anyways. I'm off doing some more CS homework, with a dash of website updating every now and then.

Quick review of events July 31 2002, 11:41 pm
Okay. . . just to bring everyone up to speed of where I currently stand in life. . .

Spent the past 6-7 months in a punitive last push to finish my CS degree at UT. So far its working: I have less than 3 weeks left before I finish summer session, and the last class I'll ever have to take. In short, if I pass this class (flying colors or not), I'm ending my scholastic career. . . until another rainy day.

That said, I'm currently scrounging around for a new beginning for my career. I had originally planned to go back to Four Hands, but after learning that half the company had left (including the one person who has any chance of bringing the company any form of stability), there really was no reason for me to go back. My thinking is as soon as I have an alternate venue secured, I'll hand in my two-weeks' notice, clean up, and close up that chapter of my life.

On the other hand, my four-year relationship with Lady Mitsou ended a few months back. It was painful, and anyone who's ever been in a long-term relationship like that and thought everything was working out correctly said they didn't feel a thing, don't trust them with your money. I spent about a month after that wondering around aimlessly, and I'm still sort of doing that right now. Ironically, back in April and May, I had the next 5-10 years of my life all planned out. Obviously, futile plans of mice and men fares far worse in the hands of reality than they can possibly concieve. I violated the prime rule of "Never Assume", and I paid that price. So be it. Lesson learned.

As part of the recuperation process, I took up SEAL training for the summer. Yes, SEAL. As in Navy SEALs (SEa Air Land special forces). Its one of the toughest regimen of physical training I've encountered, and that's only the precursor to the actual training they put you through at the SEAL training camp. I'm currently at Week 5 of the 9 week program, but handicapped with a shin splint (although I think its a stress fracture, won't know until I see an X-Ray). No rest for the wicked.

Oh, and my household has a new member, Calima (some of you may notice the reference to the new Planet of the Apes movie). She appeared on my front door step one day, so I decided to be a good samaritan and give her some food and water. Couple of days of this later, she decided she had enough, bolted through my door, and made herself at home. I have some pictures taken, and will post them after I've organized them.

That's about it for now. . . I've got a OS assignment due in 36 hours, plus there's the CQB simulation I'm running with the ACM people, which happens to coincide with Ladies' Night tomorrow night (coincidence, I swear!). Whee. . . I think I'm enjoying my last semester. I think. . .

RPM Freelancers Website V3.0 July 31 2002, 10:32 pm
For far too long this site has remained dormant, so when I finally had some time today I redesigned the entire site from the ground up. Some of the contents I arbitrarily retained, but for the most part the site is new.

One of the main design considerations I undertook was to keep things simple. Efficient. No significant catchy eye-candies that would distract the user from the actual content. Some might deem this to be too utilitarian, but I say to each his/her own.

All the hosted sites that were originally here (NTXF, bleem!, Planet Duncan21) are still here, under their own directories, and more or less unaffected by this change.

It is my hopes that I will be able to update this site on a more-or-less regular basis, since I'm almost done with college anyways. For that matter, anybody out there willing to give a down-on-the-luck systems administrator a job? :)

Anyways, enjoy. I'll be maintaining some sort of steady dialog through here. Cheerios.
