Bah! July 29 2003, 08:16 am
Damn. . . it looks like I'm coming down with something. . . my tongue has a sore on it and it hurts whenever I swallow. . . the only thing I can think of that would have caused this would be me working too hard and not getting enough fluids in my body. . .

Grrrrrr. . .

Bad weekend July 28 2003, 10:20 am
It started off okay, went to worse, but at least it didn't end up disastrous.

Had to work on Friday night, so didn't get to spend as much as I wanted to with Yan Yan. And it seems that something's putting alot of pressure on her, but she won't let me know what it is that is giving her such a hard time.

Saturday I had to get up at an ungodly hour to go to work, but managed to get back in time to host a small dinner for Yan Yan's old roommate and her sig other. Yan Yan seemed to be in a better mood at that point, but I still felt like she's hiding something.

Sunday I had to get up at an ungodly hour AGAIN to go to work, and this time I accidentally locked her outside the house, so she had to come and get the keys from me. Fortunately for both of us she managed to find her way both to and from the store, but it was rather embarassing. But when she left last night she went back into the same state of mind on Friday night, which leaves me worried.

*sigh*. . . wanting to help. . . but don't know what to do. . .

Work work work work work. . . July 25 2003, 11:59 pm
In case anyone's wondering where I'm at and what I'm doing, I'm at work (thus the ridiculously low amount of updates). And working. And still working. And for a change of pace, more work.

To real. . . or not to real. . . July 23 2003, 10:03 pm
After a fairly grueling day at work, I decided to just unwind and not do anything for the rest of the day. These new schedules that we're being given are starting to wear me down. . . it isn't that noticeable yet, but I'm beginning to feel the attrition setting in.

Yan Yan's light cruiser underwent some major engine overhauls today, and apparently due to the near astronomical repair bill, she's decided to take a keen interest in learning the skills of an automechanic. This ought to be interesting. . . :)

Finally found some time and watched "A Beautiful Mind". . . and I can see why it deserved the honors it received. Words fail me in trying to describe the script, and the cast was obviously up to the task of making the film a true work of art.

Now, time to go write some stuff on windows and derive the absolute value of pi. . .

Can you take it all away? July 22 2003, 12:43 am
After a fairly hectic day at work, I was looking forward to a quiet evening of dinner and hot tub before turning in for a bright and early morning. Funny how the best laid plans of mice and men are thwarted by the engima that we call life. . .

Recieved a call from Yan Yan shortly after dinner, as apparently her light cruiser suffered catastrophic failure, and stranded her and a friend in the middle of nowhere (nowhere = beneath Mopac @ 6th/Lake Austin Blvd). I was out the door and blasting out with my trusty Bismark with a toolbox in the cargohold within five minutes. By the time I got there a peacekeeper had already assisted the two girls in moving the car out of the right-of-way. A quick confirmation between me and the APD officer (who happened to be very courteous and cooperative) assured him that I will be taking charge of the situation.

After inspecting every possible user-accessible component, I determined that the central processing unit for the cruiser had suffered irreversible psychological damage somehow, and refused to be coaxed to cooperate. Something like that requires a trip to the shipyards for a major overhaul, which my basic facilities are ill-equipped to handle. Yan Yan was pretty withdrawn (scared? pissed? I'm not sure. . . and I was too tired to find out) throughout the whole process, but I left instructions for her on how to resolve this in the most expeditious manner (and warned her of the possible astronomical repair bill). We'll see how it turns out in the morning. . .

Meanwhile. . . I still have to catch up on sleep. . . have to be at work at 9AM. . .

Blurry, by Puddle of Mudd

Everything's so blurry
And everyone's so fake
And everybody's empty
And everything is so messed up
Pre-occupied without you
I cannot live at all
My whole world surrounds you
I stumble then I crawl

You could be my someone
You could be my scene
You know that I'll protect you
From all of the obscene
I wonder what you're doing
Imagine where you are
There's oceans in between us
But that's not very far

Can you take it all away
Can you take it all away
Well ya shoved it in my face
This pain you gave to me
Can you take it all away
Can you take it all away
Well ya shoved it in my face

Everyone is changing
There's no one left that's real
To make up your own ending
And let me know just how you feel
Cause I am lost without you
I cannot live at all
My whole world surrounds you
I stumble then I crawl

You could be my someone
You could be my scene
You know that I will save you
From all of the unclean
I wonder what you're doing
I wonder where you are
There's oceans in between us
But that's not very far

Can you take it all away
Can you take it all away
Well ya shoved it in my face
This pain you gave to me
Can you take it all away
Can you take it all away
Well ya shoved it in my face
This pain you gave to me

Nobody told me what you thought
Nobody told me what to say
Everyone showed you where to turn
Told you when to runaway
Nobody told you where to hide
Nobody told you what to say
Everyone showed you where to turn
Showed you when to runaway

This pain you gave to me
You take it all
You take it all away...
This pain you gave to me
You take it all away
This pain you gave to me
Take it all away
This pain you gave to me

A little R&R. . . July 19 2003, 02:29 pm
After eight straight days of work, I finally was able to get some downtime. Friday's shift was pretty uneventful, even with the pre-announced visit of some corporate VPs. Friday evening was spent cooking some garlic butter scallop pesto for Yan Yan after her busy week at work, and a night of fun ensued at Dave & Buster's. We walked away with less cash in our pockets, but with big smiles on our faces and a huge red teddy bear in Yan Yan's arms (pictures to be taken soon).

This morning was spent chowing down on some grilled hot dogs with Cosmo and Suzi as they prepped for our 1st water volleyball tournament. While not many people showed, we managed to scrounge together three teams for some informal competition. Our team did alright, but poor Yan Yan was having a hard time keeping up. I had to quit early because Yan Yan was tired from all the sun (we're both nice and toasted), but its alright. . . because everyone had fun.

Now. . . a little window-shopping. . . and maybe some more video gaming down at the big screen later tonight. . . :P

Thwarted. . . July 16 2003, 10:58 pm
Well. . . guess my indecision decided for me. Just recieved word from the powers-that-be today that we will be getting not one, but TWO new supervisors that used to be sales managers at other stores. This spells disaster for us part-timers, as the full-timers will be chewing up all the hours and leaving crumbs for the rest of us. . . time to move on, I suppose. . .

Doh! Doh! Doh! July 16 2003, 11:28 am
Its about halfway throught the week already, and I'm still toying with the idea of asking the managers if I could take the Supervisor position that's now open at our tech bench. There are pros and there are cons to this decision, and as far as I can tell neither outweighs the other. If I don't ask for the position (assuming that they are gracious enough to humor my initiative), another tech will be promoted from our group (out of the two eligible: one good, one bad), which isn't a bad thing necessarily, unless they chose the bad tech to become the sup. Then we're all screwed. If I do ask for the position, I will become saddled with more (demanding) responsibilities and (outrageous) expectations. Either of which I can handle individually, but I'm queasy about confronting both at the same time. Time's running out, and I have to decide soon, lest my indecision decides for me. . .

Poor Yan Yan was stuck at work until 12AM this morning. . . it seems that the Industrial Design group at DE has a big project due this Friday, and everyone was burning the midnight oil to get it done. Poor baby. . . :(

It never rains. . . July 13 2003, 07:28 pm
. . . it pours. . . and it floods. It turns out that our lead technician has left our ranks, so the tech bench at my Best Buy is now critically short in manpower (not to mention a supervisor). To some it came as a surprise, to others it came as a blessing, and to the rest it came as curse. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I'm withholding mine to protect the innoncent. Nonetheless, I decided to sieze the initiative and took charge of the group today, and I think we turned out fairly well. Time will only tell what will happen to our forlorn group of techno-magi. . .

The pool party that took place yesterday went fairly smoothly. The only disappointment was that I had intended to hold a DDR mini-tournament at the entertainment center, except it was overrun by a baby-shower party. Otherwise, there were food being grilled, DDR pads being stomped, volleyball games played, and chattering and laughter ensued. While not many people showed up due to the short notice, those who did seemed to enjoy themselves. And that's all I can ask for.

Time to clean up and head to dinner at Yan Yan's old roomie's place. I heard her cooking skills were quite good. . .

Launch! July 11 2003, 02:51 am
After some minor twiddlings, the business edition of RPM Freelancers was rolled out as of 5 minutes ago with little fanfare. It being V1.0, I decided to keep it as simple as possible, as well as straight to the point. Well. . . maybe not completely straight to the point, since I only published the capabilites of a certain part of RPM Freelancers, but not all. *evil grin*. . .

In the meantime. . . the Special Operations section of RPM Freelancers (where you are at right now) will be moving. . . AGAIN. But this time it may be for good, since the rpmfreelancers.com was finally registered. So, for all of you loyal readers, please take note that RPM Freelancers Special Operations will be moving to http://www.rpmfreelancers.com/SpecOps/ on July 31st, the 1st anniversary of RPM Freelancers V3.0.

Time flies when things happen. . .

Return to Castle XBox July 9 2003, 01:28 am
Woke up way early in the morning for work today, which turned out to be fairly uneventful. However, as it neared time for me to leave, things became a bit sticky (with a sudden influx of customers), not to mention the fact that the sky just decided to unload a good portion of the Atlantic Ocean onto us. But it wasn't all to bad, because when I got home, my XBox was waiting for me.

Prior to enjoying my XBox I went ahead and renewed my lease with Jefferson Center. Everything went fairly smoothly, so I'm set for another nine months. After a couple of hours of Project Gotham Racing, I headed down to the pool to join Kozmo and Suzi and Co. for an unimaginably large amount of desserts. During that time we saw the weather go from cold and windy to warm and sunny. That's Texas weather for you. . .

Kozmo decided to scratch some Halo itches, so we hunkered down and played it for several hours. My original plan was to play it on the big screen downstairs in the game room, but several other residents beat us to it. Oh well, maybe next time. . .

Time for bed. . . and then more XBox goodness in the morning. . .

Wheee. . . busy busy busy. July 4th weekend was fun. . . mom and sis came down for a visit, so there was much home cooking to be had. We went out and saw the annual fireworks display at Town Lake, and this year was the grandest yet. Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed when the B-2 bomber failed to show up. While it was a let down, everyone (including Yan Yan) enjoyed the fireworks.

More cooking and eating ensued on Saturday, but I was unable to attend to my kin because I had to work. Fortunately for me Yan Yan picked up the slack, and it seems that she and mom are getting along quite well.

Woke up damn early in the morning today. . . and finally registered "RPM Freelancers" as a business name. Yea. . .

New acquisitions. . . July 2 2003, 11:45 pm
After much thinking and pondering and indecisiveness, I finally got myself a new backpack, since my poor old Jansport (which has been with me through high school AND college) is bristling with senility. I'm going to see about sending it off to Jansport Camp to get it rejuvenated, but in the meantime my Targus laptop backpack should serve me in good stead.

My other impulsive purchase for the month was Amanda's old Canon PowerShot Digital Elph S100. I was looking for one of those to replace my aging Polaroid PDC1100, and it just happens she was retiring hers for a new 5 megapixel camera. The Elph still works without any fuss, plus she threw in a Compact Flash reader (was thinking about getting one of those too), a 64MB and a 8MB CF card, 3 Lithium-Ion batteries, and a battery charger. After scouting around eBay it turns out I got a fairly decent deal (not spectacular, but I didn't get ripped off either).

Work today started off slow, but towards the end I got handed a series of annoyed customers. Fortunately for me I managed to brighten their day by pulling miracles out of my rear end one after another. I don't know how I did it, but I'm glad I did. I'm also thanking whatever kind spirit that was watching over me tonight. It could have gotten real ugly.

Which reminds me. . . I left a few things unfinished at work. Guess I better head over there in the morning before they wonder what's going on. . .

Where we stand. . . July 2 2003, 03:30 pm
July's not starting off on the right foot. I was absolutely too lethargic to get anything accomplished yesterday, AND I had to go to work even though I was not scheduled (because the person who was scheduled called in sick). So counting today that will be nine days in a row that I have been at work. At least I get tomorrow off. . .

The original plan was to register the business name yesterday, but I realized that I had forgotten to create some rather important documents *ahem* business plan *ahem*. . . so spent all morning writing it. . . minus the financial history since I didn't really keep a good record of it. . . :P But starting now that will change, in order for me to get a good idea on how this venture will turn out. So, barring some unforseen catastrophe I will head to the county clerk office and see about registration. And then after that, domain name registration. Yup. . . after all this time. . . RPM Freelancers if finally going to get its own name. . . whee. . .

So it appears Yan Yan's roommate is having problems with me visiting Yan Yan at their place. I guess that's one less place where we can hang out at. . . :(

Kyle got swamped at work, but assumes that he will have time to finish up the bike either this week or next. Can't wait. . . . . .
