Disaster Strikes! June 23 2007, 11:52 pm
It was great having dinner with Agromon and Obs last night. Lots of fun and hilarity ensued at Joe's Crab Shack. Good times, good times. . .

Had originally planned to take grandmother out today, but while enroute to Western Command Center, Yanyan's cruiser suffered catastrophic damage to the number three friction drive. So I had to EVA and effect emergency repairs. The drive was completely destroyed, so I had to drag out the spare drive and replace it for the interim. None of the drydocks near our location had the correct drive in stock, so it looks like her cruiser is going to be operating in degraded mode until full repairs can be effected.

That pretty much knocked out our morning and half the afternoon. Fortunately, there was enough time left to at least take grandmother to the cultural event in the area. So all wasn't lost today.

It lives! June 22 2007, 09:43 pm
Well, after much anticipation and a couple of false starts, the humongous SAN is now installed into my now-fully-loaded server cabinet.

I still need to configure the Brocade Silkworm fibre channel switch, as well as build the RAID array through it, but I'm confident given a little time and lots of sweat, it can be done.

Installing the damn thing was what take me all afternoon. Apparently the power outlet (the only one accessible within the garage) was a special GFI outlet, which complained everytime (and popped itself) everytime I plugged in one of the UPSes in the cabinet. After lots of trial and error, I finally found a wiring combination that was mildly acceptable to the outlet. It still complains a little bit, so time will tell if it will remain stable.

Now I need to clean up and head out and meet with Agrovale and Obsidian. They're visiting from the Republic of Texas this week, so its good to see some familiar faces out here in OCO6.

I'm still alive! June 20 2007, 12:12 am
Yes. I know. Its been a while. You think I died, didn't you? Well, fear not, I still live. Although I'm stretched rather thin right now due to insane amounts of work being piled onto me at the office. We recently underwent yet another downsize, and after letting 2 of the 6 person department go, I now find myself doing the work of 3 people for the price of 1 (Exchange administration, Level 1, 2, and 3 tech support, and now Sharepoint administration. . . wheeee~~~). Each day I watch hopelessly as my work queue continues to grow despite my strenuous efforts to clear it out. I'm pretty sure within the next 3 months it will begin growing astronomically to the point where I have no chance at all of getting any rest. But. . . life goes on. . .

So. . . since its been 6 months since my last updatae. . . let's see what has transpired. . .

I made the long journey from Texas to California. Yanyan was along for the ride, and kept good company.

We camped at Western Command Center for a couple of months until we located a good spot to build Outpost Command Orange Six.

My beloved battleship Bismark suffered catastrophic damage due to an unexpected collision. Fortunately, no loss of life and minimal injuries were reported. Unfortunately, Bismark was laid up in drydock for 3 weeks until repairs were completed.

I attended Operation Lion Claws VI as part of the Ranger detachment out in Hesperia, and found myself roving atop a Humvee playing turret gunner. Pictures will follow once I find some time to upload them.

Established Outpost Command Orange Six with the expected operational lifetime of five years. At the end of that five years, we will review the validity of remaining at this Outpost, and make plans going forward.

Began building my armory in OCO6, but was forced to convert part of the docking bay to do so. Apparently Yanyan has this thing against having weapons in the house. On the other hand, I am perfectly comfortable with having easy access to self defense systems. So guess who won that battle?

Got myself a Xbox 360 to yet further distract me from life. Am having a good time Hammer of Dawning locusts and Skytime Assassinating gangsters. Ahh. . . good clean wholesome fun the whole family can enjoy. Meanwhile, Yanyan and I worked together on luring pinatas into a garden so that they can be eaten by other pinatas.

Currently working on getting my grubby little hands on a full fledged SAN (Storage Area Network, ye of little technological aptitude) to complement the growth of the CCCCC network. The amount of storage it will offer will probably last me quite a while.

And that's about it for now. With construction of OCO6 finally winding down, I'm hoping to be able to update the site more often. For one thing, I need to rebuild the Media Library (no, you can't access it right now. Yes, I know its broken. No, you can't help me fix it. Yes, I'm working on fixing it.), and since this version of the site has lasted this long, I'll probably look at a full revision in the near future.

All this assuming I don't get buried by stuff happening at work.
