When down. . . March 28 2004, 11:01 pm
. . . go to Dave & Busters! At least, that's what I decided to do last night when YanYan seemed to be under some pressure what with all her graduate work and what not. Meanwhile, I was feeling a bit depressed with my current economic situation. So I figured a bit of fresh air would help. And for the most part, it did.

Spent today going over my A+ materials in preparation for the first exam (to be scheduled) this week. And then spent time washing both Bismark and Shadow Phoenix since both were quite dirty from the recent rain storms. And the highway construction in my area definitely weren't helping much.

Alrighty. . . back to cramming. . . I will get all my certifications yet. . .

Spec Ops. . . BBY style. . . March 25 2004, 12:17 am
Fairly eventful day today. . .

Started the day by taking YanYan to school because she woke up late (yet again. . .). Came home as soon as I could and prepped for a non-standard errand for BBY.

Basically, the In-Home Networking service that BBY has been offering and our store has repeatedly failed to sale any (until I took up the slack starting last month), has one little problem: they don't apply to businesses. On one of them that I prepped for a customer this month, I assumed that it was for their home business. Well, I assumed wrong. So rather than refunding the customer, our store manager came up with the bright idea that one of us Services personnel should complete the install instead. This was brought to my attention, and I volunteered to resolve this matter, since I was the one who started it in the first place.

So after about an hour of work, an hour of driving time, and milage marked at 36 miles, I accomplished the mission flawlessly, and the customer was pleased 100% of the way (maybe except for their in-house quasi-IT person, but that's okay, he's got other stuff to worry about).

To celebrate the perfect salvage of a near disaster, I took YanYan to SkiShores for some yummy burgers. Chatted with Jeff for a bit to see how business was.

And then we went shopping at "for sale" listed in YanYan's Chinese Student Association's email list. She found a sewing machine for her industrial design projects, and I found a nifty little waterfall thingamajigies. The afternoon outing was rounded up with a quick trip to my supply depot for some parts for a client's computer. The PX I use moved recently, and it looks much nicer. It seems that business for them is picking up too, as I saw two new staff members.

Dinner was served at Mandarin House, where YanYan and I chowed down on some food that neither she nor I knows how to cook. We finished the night by picking up some odds and ends at Wal-Mart before heading home.

Wheee. . . I'm tired now. And there's still my SEAL training to adhere to in the morning. . .

Whoa. . . March 21 2004, 07:16 pm
After coming into possession of a relatively "old" game called Theme Hospital, it came to my surprise that YanYan expressed immense interest in playing it. I've played the demo for the game years ago, and thought it was pretty fun. YanYan obviously thinks so too, as she's been playing for five hours straight. Go figure. . . :P

Booooooo. . . March 21 2004, 11:27 am
Well, the party on Friday got off on a slow start, and stayed slowed until the end. Some people who said they would show up didn't show, while others did so we kept things interesting with a couple of rounds of You Don't Know Jack and Cranium. Much food and beverage was consumed though, although I do believe more people will show up once the weather warms up and we can hit the pool for some water volleyball.

Work at BBY has been pathetic lately. My recent annual review received above average marks, and yet I'm being handed out less hours than other part-timers. Guess I'll have to go in and chat with my sup about the situation. That and add on the fact that after being a relatively good resident for the past year and a half and recommending Evil Twin to moving in the complex, the apartment management has decided to jack my rent to slightly ridiculous amounts. So either they act reasonable, or I may have to shut down Outpost Command IV and start up Outpost Command V somewhere else. . .

Pre-Party. . . March 19 2004, 01:19 pm
Got a double planned for tonight, and I'm scrambling to get things done in preparation for it.

First part would be a standard Gathering at Mi's place, which has been a quasi-monthly tradition last year, but finally beginning this month for the new year. It'll be a potluck-based gathering, so it'll be interesting to see what kinds of food people will be bringing. Games, chattering, and movie-watching will follow until people decides to go home.

The second part would be a small LAN party for those who've been wanting one for a while. Evil Twin's apartment was volunteered by me to help accomodate everyone's computers (not to mention an extended network through a wireless bridge).

So yeah. . . busy day today. . . and I still have a couple of errands to run and client's computer to fix before the fun starts. Not to mention working yet another 9 hour shift tomorrow. . .

Baaaarg. . . March 18 2004, 02:34 am
Grr. . . the past few days have gone by in a flash. . . working 8+ hour days at BBY, and then rushing home and cramming for the A+ exams. . . all which resulted in me having a splitting headache tonight. . . I couldn't even function properly during YanYan's dinner party. . . sorry sweetie. . .

Hopefully a night's sleep will cure my ailement. . . otherwise, I might have to resort to some desperate measures. . .

Whee. . . March 12 2004, 12:26 am
Since I find myself in a lull after publishing two websites simultaneously (not counting the minor little details that needs to be changed) and finish converting YanYan's portfolio into HTML format. . . I decided to resume my pursuit of the various technical certifications that I should've gotten years ago.

First on my list is the ubiqitous CompTIA A+, followed thereafter by either the Network+ or CCNA, or both. Those will then be followed with either the rest of my SAIR Linux SA exams or the MCSA/MCSE exams, or both if I feel like I'm up to it. Estimated time of completion is within the next three to six months, interrupting tasks pending.

But before all that. . . need to make a trip back to HQ this weekend for some matters to be resolved. Family business and all that good stuff. . .

Evil Twin's here. . . March 10 2004, 07:33 pm
Well, Travis finally got his key and moved into his apartment (which is right next door to mine) today. Spent half the afternoon helping him move in, and we're scheduled to make another trip up north for the rest of his stuff this weekend.

At this rate, I should be able to take over the apartment complex in another fifty years. . .

She flies! She flies! March 10 2004, 02:53 am
Mmm. . . motorcycle. . .

So far the Shadow Phoenix has performed to expectations. Her engine is still experiencing some fluctuations, which I'm hoping to eliminate within the next few gas fill-ups. Her handling isn't as I remembered it, but that's probably because of the fork oil Kyle added. The accelerator and clutch has a little too much tolerance, and the gear shift does not let me slide into neutral easily.

But despite all these faults, its good to be on the road again. . . Besides, I'm sure I can square away alot of it by spending an afternoon fine-tuning her. . .

Progress March 7 2004, 11:19 pm
Damn. . . just sat through 8 straight hours of coding YanYan's portfolio into a website. . . but it looks pretty sweet. Now she just needs to finish writing her thesis and her introduction, and it'll all be good to go.

Now for some munchies and yet another screening of the Two Towers. Can't wait for Return of the King DVD to come out. . .

On the road again March 6 2004, 03:00 am
At last. . . more than eighteen months after that fateful incident. . . repairs on Shadow Phoenix were finally completed today, and I plotted the course for her maiden voyage straight from Kyle's repair facilities back to Outpost Command IV.

First off, she looks beautiful. Kyle did an exemplary job restoring her exterior paint jobs, not to mention the scores of other repairs and fixes which would've taken me forever to figure out had he not been helping me along the way. Even before I took her home tonight, we were finding little miscellaneous things to tidy up on before something dreadful happens.

Even though it was about 65 degrees Farenheit outside, I ventured forth into the freezing wind-chilled ride. Fortunately, my skills and training have not diminished all that much in the past year and a half. It was like learning how to ride a bicycle and never forgetting.

After the short but enjoyable ride, YanYan demanded a ride too. So to oblige her I took her around the block, going at slow speeds since it was my first time carrying a passenger.

Now all I have to do is renew the registration and have the dealership inspect it before some cop pulls me over and throws me in jail due to expired tags. . .

Stupid CGIMarch 4 2004, 08:47 pm
Grr. . . been wrestling with trying to resurrect the bleem! Refugee Board the entire day today. . . and made only very little progress.

I've managed to re-enable the control panel so that at least I can administer it again, but for some reason the forums are still invisible for the most part. Its really really irritating me. . .

Guess I'll go work on YanYan's webpage for a bit and come back to this. Maybe my brain will choke out an answer by then. . .

Grr. . .

Rained outMarch 4 2004, 12:43 am
Kyle was incommunicado today. . . so launch of the Shadow Phoenix has been delayed again. That and it was really crummy weather, so maybe it was a good thing. Last thing I need is to wipeout on the slippery road on the newly rebuilt interceptor. . .

Almost there. . .March 2 2004, 12:39 am
Was feeling pretty nauseated last night when I went to bed for some reason, and was faring only a little better this morning when YanYan had to leave for school. Slept a couple more hours after she left, and I finally felt somewhat normal again. Still don't know what had hit me though. . . but at least the weather looks like its finally going to warm up for riding season.

And just in time. . . spent some time this evening with Kyle doing the last major repairs to Shadow Phoenix. We got the battery swapped, replaced the spark plugs, and fed her some fresh gas. The result was a much smoother engine than before, even though she was still not purring like she used to. Poor baby. . . we'll get you fixed up soon. I was sorely tempted to bring her home today, but Kyle thinks she needs a little more work done. So as much as I wanted to start riding, I decided to heed Kyle's concern and with any luck, she'll be home on Wedensday.

Its been more than eighteen months since that fateful crash. . . but the tunnel is getting brighter up ahead. . .
